So What's Changed?
Hello all. I joined ESO back in the testing phase and rolled into the live launch for a little while. Stopped playing sometime in 2014 or 2015. I've decided to give the game another go and am wondering what should I expect coming back? What's new? What's changed? How is the community now? Does the game feel different?
I ran a search for the updates and it linked me to a generic DLC list. Didn't really show me the progression of the changes. I've been looking through the forums and it seems most discussions are centered around the latest expansion/chapter. But for me... I've had YEARS of being gone. So I'm curious to see how the game has changed.
Thoughts?

Kuwhar✭✭✭✭Every zone is leveld to you, so you can go anywhere and its relevant.
Subscribing is very much worth it.
Other than that, nothing that'll feel too different.1 -
Airyus✭✭✭The best thing to do is come back and play for a week. Before you do check out some of the latest builds for PVP and PVE and make sure you understand why they do what they do. A lot has changed since then and there is definitely a lot to catch up on. Yeah I had done a couple rounds of 90 day ESO+ subs when I first started. Although I didn't play that entire time. But looking it over now it seems like a really good deal. I'd be concerned though about having access to all those areas and new content and yet not comfortable with the basic stuff first. I feel like the plus membership might be better for someone who has gotten a good grasp of the base game first?0 -

and not necessarily a nice one, levelling is a whole different beast now!
Did you leave before One Tamriel? If yes then the changes are pretty major, although having been here throughout I still love the game and have adapted as things changed
Probably the best thing to research would be Champion Points and their progression. When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"

I don't recall anything called One Tamriel at the time. I left after a couple months here. I'll take a look at Champion Points because I've not heard of those either.0 -

✭✭✭✭✭A lot changed. Here's a brief, certainly not complete, overview.
One Tamriel removed vet ranks and battleleveled the whole world up to CP 160, removing the forced leveling progression to quests. You can do any content in any order.
Homestead brought player housing, which is mostly cosmetic except for newly added storage, attunable crafting stations, and training dummies for DPS testing.
Morrowind massively nerfed sustain, so use heavy attacks to regain resources. Morrowind also introduced battlegrounds, a 4v4v4 PVP mode. And the Warden class.
Horns of the Reach changed trait and mundus stone effects.
Clockwork City introduced the transmutation system allowing players to change gear to other, researched traits.
Dragonbones DLC started the Level Up rewards and Skill Advisor. Players now receive rewards upon leveling up and can select a build to work towards. It also introduced the outfit system, where you can create an outfit to wear over your equipped gear based on your account wide motif knowledge, including weapon dyeing.
Summerset added jewelry crafting and the Psijic Order skill line. Battlegrounds is now base game, with a daily random Battleground similar to daily random dungeons. Warden is a seperate upgrade.
Other big changes:
The group dungeons have different queue requirements -Normal unlock progressively up to level 45, Vets unlock at level 50, Vet DLC dungeons unlock at CP 300.
AOE caps were added and now removed again from PVP.
Master Crafting Writs can be obtained by doing level 50 daily crafting writs and the vouchers they award can be used to by stuff like furnishing recipes or housing storage.
Craglorn is no longer a group zone, though it has some quests where a group is highly recommended.
The plotline has moved on from the Planemeld and into the Daedric Wars arc, in Morrowind, Clockwork City, and Summerset.Edited by VaranisArano on June 16, 2018 5:26PM3 -

✭✭✭✭✭Ignore the calls to stay out of the game while reading up on this, that, and everything else. Just log in, create a character, and play. You played so long ago that it would be (a) impossible and (b) pointless running through every change that's been made! Once you've played a session or two then you'll get the feel for it and also know what it is you need more information on. However, things like champion points, builds and gear etc you can leave completely until you are well advanced in the game and even then a lot depends on whether you're looking to be super-competitive or just to have fun playing the game.1 -

TheForsake✭✭They nerfed sorcerers to the point were playing as a mudcrab would probably be more efficient in PvP.0
