So now I'm more confused than ever...

So the big day is tomorrow when I need to choose a new 'toon and play him/her through.

I had thought about a MagPlar since they have great knockback and healing is outstanding, but everyone seems to be talking up MagSorc (which I used to play), but they have no knockback at all unless they're using lightning staff and, honestly, I don't find them that great at healing (either themselves or others).

So, in your opinion, which is the better one to play long-term. My intention is for my AD High-Elf to just keep on going starting back at VulkelGuard and going from there through all the Alliances one at a time.

I'm not much of a PvPer nor am I much of a grouper.

Your thoughts?

If you’re planning on just running solo there are worse things than a Magplar’s self healing ability. That said if you’re looking long term, and I say this as someone with 1000+ hours on a Magplar, if you’re fighting against 1 Magsorc it’s tougher than fighting against 1 Magplar, but conversely 10 Magplars should destroy 10 Magsorcs.

Also, do you like pets? If so Magsorc. Do you like being able to more easily switch from tank to DPS to healer? Magplar.

It really depends on what your long term vision is.

If you're not going to do PVP and you're not doing group dungeons, I would go with the magplar. Mine does very well in solo content, both with damage and staying healed. I think for PVP and group dungeons, the magsorc is probably better.

If you don't play group content, and you don't pvp, then you can do absolutely whatever you feel like doing. As to the healing, sorcs typically use their shields instead, which many would argue is better than self heals. Templars are good for overland, since their spamable is aoe, and heals them passively. If you haven't done a Templar before, you may as well go ahead and do that for the new experience.

They are different and it comes down to personal preference. I do enjoy both, though I'm still getting the hang of sorc with pets.

I think the Magplar is a solid solo class with a versatile kit and will serve you well as long as you are not going for leaderboards.

I'm loving my new Magblade! One thing that always bothered me was, having done quests over and over with multiple characters, is always having to fight through mobs... once you get high enough CP, the XP is no longer important- so fighting mobs is more of a waste of time than 'fun' or even necessary. With the Magblade, I can skip almost all fights, get to the destination, and move on. But IF I choose to fight, the Magblade is awesome at destroying enemies and self-healing... plus I can switch to Maghealer and heal World Boss fights. Lovin' it!!

Yeah, that's how I speed-quested through AD before Summerset came out to get completion and skill points.

Stealthing through everything is a lot of fun.

I’ll use a sports analogy: a Magplar has a higher floor while a Magsorc has a higher ceiling.

Huh? You can heal up to most vet stuff with just the twilight. You can run a 62k magika pet healer. Tempars are kewl tho i would play what appeals to you. Hangs head. I do have a templar healer too .

I have a mag sorc as well as a mag templar. As far as functional goes, I found the sorc to be a good class with little to complain about. If anything it may be a little easier to play than the templar, but I don't enjoy playing it as much. I got it to 50 and basically parked it. It's a chocolate v vanilla thing, they're a good class.

The only class (magicka based) that rivals templar in terms of fun to play for me is magicka NB. Their healing potential surprised me and they're just a blast to play.

Thank you all. I guess I'll create two then, one MagPlar and a MagScor and try them both out. Can't hurt to have 'em both be at 50 and see which one I like best.

I would do a MagBlade, but I've been down that road before.

I only wish there was just something I could play that was a smash 'em smash 'em w/out all the magicka guff.

You can run StamWarden healers, if that's what you're after. These can get you through vet content. So, that is a viable option.

I imagine it would be fairly easy to go between DPS and healer as a Templar with minimal respeccing. That way you can play the class/playstyle you want while also having options for end-game content if you wish to do so but are worried about being a Magplar DPS.

You might be forgetting the Twilight Matriarch, which almost invariably heals for MORE than Breath of Life due to how easy it is for a sorcerer to get a huge magicka pool. Critical Surge also heals you passively while doing damage.

Daelon, that you? If so, play a stamina Nightblade as a rogue/thief archetype. It will be good to get out of your comfort zone ;)
