Haven't Played since Morrowind - is Summerset worth my time?

Hey everybody, I was just wondering how everybody felt about the new big expansion. I went on a long hiatus after Morrowind, but have generally loved the game and invested time in it.

I'm basically behind on Clockwork City and now Summerset. (don't care for dungeon DLCs.)

Anyway I'm wondering if now is a good time to rejoin the game, or if perhaps I should let more DLCs roll out first. Have these 2 DLCs added any major gamechangers or they just more of the same in new zones?

I’ve enjoyed it. The storyline got pretty good towards the end. The new skill line is pretty decent, but not a make or break for characters. If you like to tinker with builds it adds some extra flavor. Jewelry crafting is pretty grindy, but again, it adds flavor to what is already available if you’re into crafting.

The set items are “ok” and you can buy them from other players (except trial sets).

All in all, I’d say it’s worth the $30, but you’re not going to be at any sort of disadvantage if you choose to wait to purchase it.

P.s. anytime is a good time to start playing again. Just log in and go. A financial commitment is not required ;)

Eh, not really. Other than JC and about 20h of story content, it’s still the same (loveable but messy) game. UI and backend need fixes more than ever. They can’t seem to quash the performance bugs, either, which are about as bad as when DB launched and people were rubberbanding all over and getting their toons perma-frozen in loading screens.

Edit: PVP is—almost universally known as—in the worst place it’s ever been. If you’re into that, steer clear.

Well, there's the Psijic skill line now. Ask yourself - do I enjoy galavanting all over Tamriel on a grotesquely drawn out, undisguised fetch quest, with nothing but brief snippets of (truly excellent) voice acting to keep me company?

If the answer is yes, then have I got content for you!

Let's be honest, PVP has never been in a good place.

The New Chapter has broke the end game a bit. There are supposed to be fixes here soon. Summerset has been a blast so far. It’s worth it in my opinion.

yes, i would say so, I didnt like morrowind but am having a great time with summerset. Might want to wait a few weeks for less players there and some intermittent lag to clear up. Over al i think youll have a good time and it is a good chapter to join or rejoin eso

Not disputing that, but it’s still worse than ever.

I'd say yes. The quests are great, the areas are scenic, there's good lore to be found. Modern-world issues are well-reflected there. Even disturbingly well-reflected, in some instances...

Jewelrycrafting, while a huge grind, is also a great addition. Psijic skills are useful and fun, and their quests have some very juicy lore in them.

Also, I suggest you try CWC-it is, by no means, a dungeon DLC. Big questline that leads into the events of Summerset, awesome bits of Dunmer lore and interesting info on their gods. The devs did a good job on the environment. Feels surreal, some stuff is basically Fallout with pointy ears -especially one particular subquest.

Main quest is solid and finishes the story that started when the game launched - particulalarly satisfying from a DC perspective I guess.

Psjic quests have had mixed reviews - if you are a hurry hurry type player they may annoy, if you don't mind a treasure hunt through Tamriel they are acceptable enough and the skill line has some nice skills.

Jewelry crafting is way grindy but will prove useful if you've always secretly dreamed of running 2 full crafted sets with your monster set. (Oh yes staffs, bows and such now count as 2 set pieces so everyone can run 2 full 5 pc sets plus monster)

So many quests... I assumed when the area acheive was for 33 quests that there would be 33 quests only and I was somewhat peeved. But I hiot the 33 mark a couple of weeks back and have probably been doing a couple a day every day since and still have some in my journal - not including the new dailies. So I think they listended to the post-MW feedback about cheaping it on the questing and really took them time to make a big zone with some fun little stories in the various areas not just fetch quest stuff.

Overall this is the first DLC/Chapter in some time I'd be happy recommending.

Transmutation, outfit system, jewelry crafting and the Psyjic Order skill line are pretty interesting at least to look into. The content of Summerset is also pretty good and the zone is both gorgeous and well designed. I'd say it's worth it.

If you like what the game has done so far, I think you'd like Summerset. If you're looking for something new and different, you're in for more of the same.

I personally have enjoyed the new content, crafting, and skills.

It got a lot better after Morrowind, though it had its bump it road. It offers more diverse gameplay of healers and tanks some fixes for balance between stamina and Magicka dps. There's been housing storage and outfit system. Battlegrounds went public to masses with some added rewards. The stories and quests have gotten a lot better. It may still have issues here and there, but Gane is always getting better. So I say come back. You won't regret it.

I don´t like the architectural style of Summerset. Not really elvish. More breton, I´d say.

If you like lag, random freezes, disconnects, and all your skills not working at random times, then yea it’s definitely worth it!! Servers are garbage right now. Wait for a New Server DLC IMO

At first it seems pretty awesome, then it quickly dawns on you that its 90% the same old stuff wrapped in pretty new skins. A couple of of the geysers (new word for dolmens) are more challenging. Psijic skill line seems interesting at first but becomes somewhat useless in actual game play. The quests to get it are 99% grind. Jewelry crafting is a complete bust with the absurd grinding requirements (even "absurd" if far too mild a description). The attitude and dialog of the high Elf NPC's is snotty and condescending. I have no idea why anyone would feel this as entertaining. The terrain and city layouts seem designed to annoy make you run around endlessly. The only thing I found truly engaging was at the end of the main story line.

Other than the frequent reminder it exists via increased game crashes, long load screens, sign on issues, and general lag and instability, after a couple of weeks I found myself forgetting about it.

I think Jewlery Crafting and Psygic skill line sound pretty cool. I've been used to this games servers being less than desirable.

It's a shame if the main story is nothing more than a giant fetch quest. Lot of conflicting opinions here. I'm def. used to the ES model of go here and grab X though. I've enjoyed ESO through the years, so I guess it's not much different but has new features it's worth consideration.

    Thanks for the responses everybody!

Did they ever do anything to improve resource management/regen. That was a big change for a while and it took a steaming dump on some of my characters... Mainly my DK who constantly was out of Magicka after they changed it. Is it more tame now at all?
