The Value Of Crown Gems

With the addition of twitch crates it is now possible for non-paying players to gather gems. This might lead to a decrease the revenue of ZOS since you can buy the one item you want without paying a dime.

Do you think, that this will lead to ZOS eventually adding "Radiant Legendary" rewards that have a similar droprate to legendary rewards but cannot be bought with gems?

If ZOS is giving away stuff through Twitch (ending in free gems), it's because it is beneficial for them to have players in Twitch. There are advertisements and several types of revenue in Twitch too, even buying crates and crowns there. So, believe me ZOS is not losing anything.

They're doing things the right way imho.

It's an average of 100 Twitch crates to get enough gems for one Apex, 25 crates to get one Legendary. Which are infrequently earned from viewing drop-enabled streams but always earned with a qualifying purchase from a streamer's page.

The Scarlet Regret collectibles already function as the reward you can't outright purchase. But looking at the drastic impatience surrounding the E3 bonuses, very few people will wind up having the persistence to convert Twitch crates into a reliable source of free rewards.

Do non ESO+ players ever get the free crates in game? I'm assuming they do. With that in mind, it's entirely possible to get the game for nothing (from a mate etc etc), and get free crates in game. What's the difference?

ESO+ give crowns in the value of what the subscription costs. With that players can choose to by crates or anything else. I would prefer losing those crowns to get a crate and have that choice taken away from me.

This is gonna be a bit long winded, sry.

If u have a look at real world gambling, the bank stacks the odds against the player, to always gain more money than is spends on rewards.
    Simple example:
"Roll the dice for 1$, win 5$ when u roll a 6". Statistically, the bank gains 1$ for every 6 attempts.
Thats where u say "the bank always wins".

Translating that into video games where the rewards have no rl-money value, the bank already won, when the player purchases the currency.
The odds r still stacked against the players, to encourage more purchases.
Now handing out free items, is just pr, to advertise how cool the stuff is. if u r lucky, ppl will talk about what they got and provide free advertising.
Going back to the roll a dice example, its like making the game more "intresting" by swapping to a d20 and offering a reward table like:
<5: u get the green homemade "i won a bit" badge
<10: u get the blue "i nearly won" badge
    <15: purple "so close" badge
20: the radiant apex badge "u r the cool kid!"
Under the line, the badges have the same production cost, and the bank doesnt care which badge gets handed out how many times.

I do not think crowngem value and radiant apex will be "linked" in any way. Afaik, it is known to drive the whales away. Additionally, the big downside of those is: There is no preview. ppl might not even know they exist, and by the amount of crate season there was, i personally cant tell if it is a radiant apex mount or a "normal" mount from older season, if i see a "weird rare" mount i havent seen before. Under those conditions, i would say they r actually harmful for the bank.

    1) There have been 3 free crates available at the beginning of each crown season for non + players since the second season.

    2) You are certainly correct that with Oribous crates + daily log crates there are many times as many gems available for free now then there were before.

    3) I think the bigger issue for ZOS will be mount fatigue rather then crown gem saturation when it comes to driving crown crate sales. Apex mounts are incredibly expensive relative to the amount of gems you get free even at these higher rates. I have never spent a gem and I am only just over half way there with eso + most of the time. Even at the new higher rate of acquisition I will only be able to buy an apex thing once every several years. However, I have many nice mounts now and basically all their top rewards are mounts. They are probably going to need to put some more skins, some player polymorphs or auras, and probably crate only desirable houses to keep interest high.
I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.
