No, I don't want to see this added - Please comment why.
Until they release the Mermaid race, I don't see why they should implement water based combat. Every time I try to swim, I just get eaten by slaughterfish. :/

Argonians would be OP with their +30% swim speed racial.

Why do people keep asking this in every game when underwater zones are by FAR the most hated areas in every single game?

It doesn't matter how it's implemented, it always sucks.

Why do people want a PVP area, they are by FAR the most complained about areas in every single game. It doesn't matter how it's implemented, it always sucks.

Answer: Different things interest different people. The difference between us is I don't ask them not to develop a PVP area.

Personally. I love underwater stuff, I love ocean documentaries, I like video games designed to be underwater. However....

In large games, adding a third axis... ends up terrible. It really does.

whether it be flying or swimming, in any game I've played where they added in the water, it lags the game, it makes the game size bigger, it adds unnecessary hindrance into the mix. Between adding in new "scenery" or textures, to make it feel like ocean or sky, any dramatic particles for swimming/flying, all of that stuff. It's huge.

Also, as others have mentioned. Depth perception, motion, combat, it's all a huge pain, it doesn't work how you think you want it to.

Yes because Cyrodiil has been updated so often since launch.

I think it would be pretty neat to add such a system as underwater exploration and underwater content. Is it the thing I want most from ESO? No, but I'm not going to say no I don't want it just because I have bad experiences in underwater content in other games.

I think underwater content is something they could definitely do, maybe in specific areas because if they made it to where you can go underwater anywhere, that would require going back through every zone and adding content in those zones. It could be done, but we could see a lack of content elsewhere in another DLC or update due to it.

If they do add it, maybe they can do a soft launch of it with a new update and a specific zone. One zone in particular, Pyandonnea (if they ever added it), would be a nice way to introduce underwater content, saying it makes sense since that island is home of the Sea Elves and it's extremely swamp-like, so lots of water. That's just me trying to reason with how they could add it.

Personally, I hope this doesn't happen.

I was playing WoW when they released the expansion that had the underwater area. What nobody knew at that time is that the motion (and you almost can't see it) that the water makes, was making people ill, to the point of passing out.

By the time I stopped reading the general chat, there were well over 2000 players who had identified some kind of reaction (visual) to that motion.

Thankfully, Blizzard went back and made some changes months later to alleviate the problem to some degree.

I had a very minor issue (visual) and I played through it, but it would take me about 15 minutes before my eyes and brain were on the same wavelength (no pun intended lol).

But it was really strange to see this happening.

if you like underwater zones/combat check out guild wars 2. They did it right. However id just like something similar to WOW in eso... Plain basic underwater with plants, fish, and maybe a chest here and there.

Now ideally i wish eso was a combo of archeage and GW2 when it comes to the water, but that will never happen.
