+1 The quest doesn't even require actually reading the book -- if you don't choose to (or are unable to) persuade Grog, you don't need to read the book and it disappears.

Same with 3 more lorebooks that are put in the player character's inventory and are then nowhere to be found after the quest is finished, so if you don't read them from your inventory (which is not required for the quests), you're SOL:
