I wish this had worked for me. I put in my login information only be told that my "username and password aren't recognized" and "if you bought this from Steam you have to launch the game client from Steam".
Boo for me.

That seems likely. The disconcerting thing is that other games impacted by whatever this issue is resolved their login problems quickly and ESO is just down for all of prime time on a Saturday.
Two of my other Steam games were mysteriously "uninstalled", and required a new "install". The "install" for both was instant, so it was just a Steam client glitch that fixed itself practically immediately.
ESO, on the other hand, did not say it was "uninstalled" and had no "install" option. The launcher launches but the connection errors are constant.
This makes my tech-mind think there is some sort of user context sync issue between Steam and ZOS.
I hope this tidbit helps the ZOS team sort out what's going wrong so they can fix it fast. I missed out on writs and dailies for all my toons today... Frustrating.- Darauk1 -

✭✭I think it's funny ZOS is now closing and redirecting similar threads of the same topic here. PR damage control? Close them, they slowly drift away. Leave them open for comment, and they keep popping up like a bad case of hives.
I've given up for the night. Now I can sit back, relax, and shake my head at the sheer ineptitude of it all.

Since the login is timing out my guess would be that for whatever reason, the game client isn't reaching the authentication servers. If I had to guess there's some kind of routing or DNS issue, or maybe a firewall somewhere is blocking the traffic. Impossible to say really just my two cents.4 -

Someone on the Steam boards says it's because Steam changed something in their authenticator with their most recent patch, so it sounds like you're right on the money - sadly for those of us who're still waiting for a fix or even some kind of news.

natpag1✭It's been 12 hours now since we were left in the cold. It seems to me that this issue may not be fixed until the work Day Monday. Perhaps the powers that be have seen it fit to not have anyone around to fix any issues that arise, even though it is a 24 hour game with thousands of players, pumping money into their coffers.
A little respect would be nice and an update on where there timeline might be at fixing it. if there fixing it at all over the weekend... or leaving us hanging till Monday
It seems that other games by other companies that were affected have been remedied and are up and running, so what is the issue here... is there anyone out there really even looking at the problem0 -

Bu having said that, I am very unhappy with Steam. I dread seeing those Steam Updates windows, b/c I know inside of 48 hours I won't be able to play ESO for a day or two (although the above option may give me a way around this issue!)0 -

Kimba_Do✭✭✭I purchased my copy direct, then later connected it with stream. I've not been able to log in either. That being said, I manually launched the game with the executable - note there was none of that change this password or change that or any of that stuff - waited 2 min or so for the code and was able to log directly into the game. Really looks more like a stream issue than a b/z one. Just my $0.02.Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy, and good with catsup.
