Should offline mode prevent sending whispers as well as receiving?

I've noticed players in offline mode occasionally seem to think they are in online mode and keep whispering people without realizing others can't reply. Others stay in offline mode permanently to send a kind of one-sided conversation to people. Do you feel offline mode should prevent sending messages as well?

I think if you whisper someone they should be able to whisper back. Sometimes people are in offline to be left alone because theyre too popular or something, but there are still people they want/need to deal with.

if you dont want people to send you whisper, then put yourself in offline mode.
if you are "ok" with whispers incoming to you, then let yourself be in online mode.

it really is just that easy.
just being honest, not trying to insult anyone.

Yes please. Put an end to the toxic PVP players who spew vitriol in tells while playing offline.

I think the argument is coming from the fact that offline mode people whisper people and such people cannot whisper them back rather than people not wanting to be whispered.

Yeah, too often I would forget I was marked offline and then whisper to someone. I am not someone who hate-whispers people, it was always a legit mistake on my end where I had no intention of making iy impossible for the other person to whisper me back. Had this feature been in place, a lot of unnecessary awkwardness could have been avoided. "Oh, can't whisper cos I'm still in offline mode, duh"

I like how people send you rage whispers while having you on ignore so you cannot even reply.

There should be a way to customize or add a favorite list for friends so you can hide in offline mode yet those people added to this list can still talk to you if you allow them ofc. :)

    Yes.
Offline mode should also remove all other players from your game session. At least visual appearance of them.

I'm indifferent to how that gets sorted out.

If you whisper someone, they should be able to reply, but being in offline mode should not prevent you from whispering anyone. If I'm in offline mode, it's because I want to hide from most people. I still want to be able to interact with people I actually like.

I remember one case when I was doing a recruiting round for my trade guild. One person contacted me and started whispering, asking me why our weekly sale requirements are how they are and "where's the catch."
When I tried to reply back, I noticed that this person was set Offline and I couldn't whisper back, yet this person kept still sending messages to me.
Usually at this kind of cases I invite the person in group, so we could have a talk. But instead accepting the invite, this person cancelled and sent a whisper back to me: "You don't have to check me", making it sound like I would be checking is he/she how high CP and worthy by any mean... :| (Which is kinda funny, our guild doesn't have level requirements)

If people who are set to be Offline wouldn't be able to send messages, this kind of cases would be less likely to happen and in Cyrodiil there would be less Offliners trolling other players by sending messages which can't be answered back to.
Imo it would be only fair if Offliners are unable to send messages without setting themselves online - mode first.

At the very very least, you shouldn't be able to whisper people on opposite factions/teams while both parties are in Cyrodiil/Battlegrounds. Basically this would only apply if say an AD, who is in Shor, wants to rage-whisper an EP who is also currently in Shor.
At the least this will prevent spur-of-the-moment rage tells since the rage-sender will have to go through all those loading screens while remembering who they are mad at before they can tell that person off.

I love people who are offline that send hate tells. It shows that all they do is send hate tells.

So this is what is causing me not being able to whisper people back. New player here and this thing is super confusing. People think I ignore them but they are unaware they are in offline mode and nothing you can do about it.

you can send them Mail to alert them of their offline status if it is something that important or simply block them if they're spamming you toxic bs.

If you really want to ruin an offline rage whisperer, mail them a potato, COD for 1 gold. Don't put them on ignore, bath in the rage.

Yeah, this is should also work both ways. If you ignore someone, you can't whisper them.

It should apply to offline mode as well, you can't receive whispers, you can't send them either. Just make sure there's a notification of why you can't, otherwise a lot of people will think they're social banned when they are in fact in offline mode.

If someone is offline mode, they should not be able to whisper. It should say, 'You are in offline mode' in their chat window.

That way, the fools that try to whisper people expecting a response in offline mode can't, until they set to online, then they can whisper, and have an actual conversation. Then go back to offline when they are done.

Offline people don't talk, let alone whisper.

Nothing is more funny than the fool in crag trying to recruit while in offline mode.

Agreed, I've run into too many instances of trying to communicate with someone who was in Offline mode that whispered me, and I think I ended up having to message them on Discord or something. I forget. Maybe I mailed them. Either way, they were oblivious to their status.

Personally, if I whisper someone, they should be able to whisper back, regardless of whether or not I'm listed as online.
I don't think you should be able to whisper someone that you have blocked however.

Those who are offline are in that status for a reason: They don't want people talking to them.
That doesnt mean they don't want to talk to specific people though.

PVP'rs, ya'll have your own problems.
You chose to engage in that toxic grieving environment, so ya'll should just block anyone who irritates you.

i love it the way it is right now but ...
in one mmo i played it had the whispers settings giving complete controll to us and it was really nice:

they had the option that even if you were offline and not even logged into the game it recorded everything that people sent to you in whisper, so when i logged in i could read exactly everything that was sent to me even tho i was offline, i loved it.

    heres example:
"hey dude i got those matts you wanted, hit me up when you loggin"

even if if some one sent me whisper when i was AFK it gave me option to have an auto response, i simply typed in my responses however long or short i wanted into the response field.

    for example:

if you were AFK you could type in the response whisper field to say:
"sory AFK, making samich brb in 10"

i used to set my whispers to auto respond if anyone whispered me in pvp
"sory you died, but if you hate it so much then go to the pve server"

    Hello everyone,

This post is to let you know that we've felt it necessary to put this thread down, as it seemed to have died some time ago. At this time we'd like to try and keep Draugr threads from roaming around the front page, pushing down newer and more lively threads.

    Thank you for understanding!
