PSA: ALWAYS VIEW ATTACHMENTS WHEN PEOPLE COD YOU STUFF!

This occurred about 20 minutes ago in Stormhaven on the Xbox One's European Server. I was hunting Time Breaches for the Psijic Order questline.

Just had someone in Zone chat selling [Aetherial Dust]

He demanded 80k, wouldn't take any other offers, which is fine as I had 80k and could spare the money. I offered to buy it off of him, and he Codded it to me.

I was just about to claim attachments and pay him his 80k, when I stopped myself...

...something about that item icon was a little off for me, and I should probably make sure before handing over so much gold. So...I hit "View Attachments" and...

...It was flour. It was mother effing flour. This guy had almost tricked me into handing him 80k gold for FLOUR!

Needless to say I photographed our conversation and the mail itself for evidence and then proceeded to report the jackass for even attempting such a thing, before outing him in zone chat (hey he could've been trying to scam someone else at that very moment) and encouraging others to do the same.

I have spare gold, so it wouldn't have been the end of the world if I had been scammed, but that's not the case for everyone. Someone could've been hit really hard by this guy, and we as players need to be more cautious when it comes to making large transactions over the in-game mail system.

TL;DR: Check the attachments of a mail if you're about to make a COD transaction. They have pulled the old "switcheroo".

P.S. Evidence of what happened is available on request (once I get the images off of my phone), but I WILL be censoring the guy's gamertag to comply with the "no naming and shaming" rule on these forums (If it were up to me I'd plaster his name everywhere I could find).

EDIT: Here's proof. Don't add images to posts often so I hope these work okay.

Oh he got reported alright. I hope that ZOS makes it mandatory to view attachments before paying for COD items. That'll make crap like this much more difficult.

Ehh, that's a pretty average price for this server. I've seen people demanding 100k for it, some offer it for 70k. As I said, it wasn't the price that seemed fishy to me. The only reason I myself wasn't scammed was because I did a double take after seeing the icon for what later turned out to be flour.

I've censored the gamertag of the guy responsible to comply with the "no naming and shaming" rule on these forums. There are some gamertags still visible in the images, but it needs to be understood that those are unrelated to the scam and should be ignored.

Rule of thumb: If you're buying from a stranger, always assume they're going to try to screw you over.

You don't need a phone for proof, you can just make a clip. It'll show the text chat and people in your FL might watch it!

Tempering Alloy and Citrine used to have the same icon. ZOS changed the Alloy icon for that reason.

Well done mate, for catching this guy out and getting it on here. Used to happen with Citrine alot.

In short you always have to check. And in fact trade is worse ive seen so many scam attempts in trade windows people flicking stuff in / out.

I think i have some dust, ill chk and let you know if still after

That'd be appreciated, but it's not something I 100% need. I just wanted to take the opportunity when it presented itself.
