The game is now Pay to win thanks to crowns for gold in game.

"A Crown Store item is considered an in-game item" So people can spend a ton of RL money, and guild members can gift crown items for in game gold. This is seriously going to SCREW up the entire game, and trading system.

What exactly will someone buy with crowns that makes the game "pay to win" ?
Did zos put super exclusive crown only OP gear/weapons on the store and I missed it ?

It will severly hurt the trading system in the game...Motifs, costumes, char slots, backpack upgrades etc etc....now a guild can sell those for gold to increase their gold. Watch trade bids be 100 million or 150 million before to long.

This is allowed in GW2 and the game is fine. In fact, you can even list gems (GW2 equivalent of crowns) directly on the auction house and sell them for gold.

The lack of a systen to trade crowns for gold in ESO means it won't happen very often. It's incredibly easy to scam someone. This will be reserved for rare instances only between parties that trust each other.

So a guild increases their gold. What does that matter to you ? And how is that "pay to win' ?

Trade bids of 100 million for what ? You cannot put crown items on guild traders.
And if someone wants to give a guild master 100 million gold for a 5K crown banker dude so what ?
How does that hurt you ?

I don't think it's going to destroy anything. I think people are way overestimating how many people will actually do this. People still need to buy crowns in order to engage in this. Which means spending $$$, something this community hates to do.

I think we're good tbh. But we'll see. I'm not worried though.

It needed this so I don’t have to pay your inflated prices. I’m glad, they need more like this

i have played "pay to win" mmo's,
    eso aint one of them.
pay to win games have overpowered armor and weapons that can only be had by paying real life Money.
in eso, there are none of those type weapons nor those type armors.

I've spent years defending ZoS against the PTW label but when a system is added so that I can use my real world cash to gift people with items that they can buy with in game gold that is probably crossing the line - it's not like normal PTW where i can buy win with crowns, but I can now buy gold with crown items and the gold can buy me things I could not buy otherwise.

Basically this is a cash to gold system that can be used to avoid playing the game as intended.

PTW, not quite. But it ain't right.

Oh, man. The idea of anyone selling backpack upgrades is just laughable. Lets look at the prices, k?

The very last backpack upgrade costs 64,500 gold. One backpack upgrade with crowns costs 1,000 crowns.

At bare minimum, the cheapest you can purchase crowns directly is via the 99.99$USD package that nets you 14,000 crowns, which translates to 140 crowns per dollar. During the rare 50% sale, that is still only 280 crowns per dollar, which still makes that backpack upgrade cost roughly 3.55$ USD.

Which would people rather spend? 3.55$ USD, or 64,500 gold? The likelihood of someone "selling" crowns for gold being willing to trade off 1000 crowns for less than 64,500 gold is slim.

Of course, this ignores people who are "buying" crowns via their ESO+ subscription, which is still a maximum of 9,000 crowns for 77.94$ USD, and can only be done every 6 months per account.

As for trading gold for crowns, I hate to be the one to break this to you, but... its been happening for years. "How can that possibly be?! Gifting was just added!"
Yeah, but Steam accounts have been around for quite awhile now. You know what you can do with Steam? Buy gift cards and give other people the code on the card.
People in a few of the guilds that I am in/have been in have been trading for steam gift codes for quite awhile, and either paying for the ESO+ subs this way, or just buying crowns. It isn't a new thing (maybe to you), and its not going to break ESO's economy. Heck, sometimes they don't even trade gold, sometimes they trade upgrade materials! *GASPS* So shocking.

Also the fact they let you submit tickets to get crowns transferred from one account to another since it came out, I also mean not just your accounts but you could donate crowns to other random peoples accounts that's how some guild leaders got Guild halls that were crowns only.

Have you seen the numerous threads about how people didn't want to buy Morrowind or how people didn't want to buy Summerset ? They all think it should have been FREE. They didn't want to spend their RL money.

Have you seen the numerous threads about how expensive crown store items have gotten ?

Some of ya'll need to calm down.

If people want to sell crown costumes/pets/mounts in exchange for in game gold, who cares. Do you really care? Are you so mad right now that Joe over there is gonna get that mount you wanted but with in game gold he's giving to Bob in exchange for Bob paying for it with real money? How mad are you exactly about this? I need a picture here.

You weren't mad yesterday when Bob was selling gear he farmed at HIGH prices, for in game gold. THAT impacts your playing way more than this nonsense ever will.

What the serious hell am I reading.
This is a great opportunity both to enable gifting and people who might not have much money to benefit from crown store items by using gold to purchase goods, as they might be able to spend more time in the game than a person who has a job.

Just earn gold and stop complaining.

You are right sir! If that kid (with 1 month eso general gaming experience) steals hes mommas credit card, buys crowns stuff and sell them for gold, so he can buy that popular OP armor set for NBs everyone talks about, he will be the god of pvp, everyone will shrivel in fear when they see him, even the other NB players (with 3+ years of pure pvp everyday 24/7 eso gaming experience) will die within seconds when they meet that kiddo... and u know why? Because he traded crowns for that gold, so he could buy/change to that exact same set and build the other top NB pvpers use, so he could come to the pvp arena ... *ehm* PREPARED as an equal to them, hes first day in pvp! And he completely blows their minds with hes powah! Because ... he found a fast way to get the gold for t.h.a.t. e.x.a.c.t. same SET that THEY use !!! :D so yeah ... shortcuts is lol pay to win, hard work and experience is overrated ... that powah lol..
