ES V Skyrim Vol II ISBN:9781783293209. Solstheim; 'Deathbrand: A Pirates's Tale'. Map shows location of Isle directly, horizontal to Windhelm; Eastmarch. The SE tip of the isle is Blacklight , located on the northern most tip of a thin slither of land joining the tip to Vvardenfell and part of Morrowwind.

ESO off northen tip of Eastmarch; just below Windhelm is the Isle of Bleakrock; Solstheim is still(unlabled) above and to the NW: But the land mass that connect to Vvardenfell, and south down to Riften has be cut-off and is an sea-inlet; making Vvardenfell an island.

When did that happen? Was this a cataclysmic event; extinction event; and is the Red Mountain responsible?

The responsible party is ZoS thinking we wouldn't notice. Its an ESO non-canon issue.

Also: your tittle is a mess, you may want to change it to something that makes sense.

Not plate tectonics, lava flow expansion. Yes, it was Red Mountain. Happens near the end of the third Era. That Imperial general lives for another 200 years after the eruption.

...im not following. Vvardenfell for the most part has always been an island.

So first, Vvardenfell has definitely been an island for most of the TES games. The Red Year event, which yes involved Red Mountain, may have caused some cataclysmic changes to the landscape, but I honestly don't know. I think the most important thing to keep in mind, though, is that we can't expect the cartography to be 100% accurate between games because different games need to focus on different environments at different scales, none of which should really be considered "the most canon version" as all version of Tamriel are incredibly small microcosms of a purportedly canon world. Unless we all really think the the entire population of Tamriel can be supported by the like dozen tiny farms we find in the world. It's supposed to be evocative of things that exist, not a perfect scale model of the universe.
