*Sigh* Yep, I'm complaining about this...

When I logged on today and got my "daily reward" (for logging in - a great feat), I couldn't help but feel my stomach turn a bit. Not because I don't like free things - I really do. And to be honest, a crown experience scroll is pretty damn good considering I did exactly nothing to earn it. But I got that same familiar feeling from when I used to play Neverwinter Online. This is not a flattering comparison. There are many games ESO should aspire to be compared to, and Neverwinter isn't one of them.

I get that ESO is a product, and it's primary purpose is to generate revenue. Read, accepted, and fully understood. But surely ZOS can accomplish these goals without embarrassing practices like this? I mean, if these daily rewards don't deliver more people logging-in regularly, then ZOS will be pretty much out of tricks. They've already got the TF2 crates, they've got the in-game ads, and now the daily rewards. The last stop on this train is Pay-To-Win City. We're not there yet, but damn.

Funny you mention Neverwinter, OP as I was thinking of Skyforge when I saw the daily logins.

And curse you for reminding me of the daily Astral Diamond grind >:)

Everything they do or do not do is a sign of eminent demise of the game.

Yeah, no one said that. The game just won't quit bugging me with ads. No matter how much money I give them. This is a bad thing. Can't make it simpler.

I have a strong aversion to being manipulated, and that's what this is, an attempt to manipulate the player into logging in.
    No bueno.

Same with the preorder bonuses. Even tho i actually wanted to buy summerset, i did not want to preorder just to spite the system :p (of course i got screwed there since after PC release the only way to get the content was still just preorder, bleh).

Well they need to fix fundamental problem with these games that drive people away in the long term. One being listening to feedback from both PvP and PvE veterans who often feel like their voices to unheard in the PTS cycles, another being bug fixes. Happy customers are repeat customers. There’s no way around this for long term health of a game.

Oh Good grief. Are you not capable of making that decision? To log in or not? The man is after me!!!!! I swear the absurdity grows everyday

Meh. It's a common practice within MMOs positive reinforcement (operant conditioning) and all that stuff. Some will like it, some won't. But if login rewards means players will at least login, and if you go through the trouble logging in, you might as well do some craft dailies and such while you're at it. Then that means more chances for you to spend money.

I'm indifferent to login rewards, but I do wonder about the motives of adding crown crates as rewards...

For the last three years I have logged in almost every day without gifts. I don't feel manipulated. I will log in when I want. If I don't feel like logging in, I won't. Daily rewards won't change anything for me.

they wont add pay to win stuff at all just cosmetics. cause seriously what could you pay to win for at this point a shortcut to trial gear pfft just pay a guild gold and theyll drag you through it for the stuff. or find a raid guild thatll pull you through it. p2w will never happen with this game the way players have made it so no worries.

You know, I almost felt the same way. Then I looked at the rewards, they’re not anywhere close to annoying and beneficial as most other games, which is great. If I log in I get a little bonus, if not, whatever. Overall I think it’s a good choice simply to appease the people that go...”ooh ooh shiny”

Being a GW2 player, I'm well versed with daily rewards. Like the idea of them being added to this game.

Yeah, but the game's been doing that for years (and the genre for even longer).

It's called daily quests, with the added bonus of all the ones that have a chance to drop a motif in the daily reward. And mount training. And writs. And....

There's no manipulation. I've logged in practically every day with no incentive, it's really not going to change now. If you absolutely need those rewards, then take 5 minutes out of your day to sit down, load up the game, grab the reward, and log out. It's not like they get money every time you log in or something.

I log in every day without even remembering that there are 'rewards' for doing so. Then I notice the ad (can't really miss it, can you?), think 'oh yeah', click on claim and promptly forget about it again.

Makes you wonder just how much effect it's having on daily logins.

I don't mind getting free things, I rather like it tbh, perhaps what grates on us is how it's done: lots of pop-ups which serve as constant reminders that ESO is a commercial product. The pop-up which comes up when you try to log out is a bit of an overkill, perhaps.

Isn't FF14 finally beating them in population? I thought I read that somewhere

If it's good enough for a free mobile app, it's good enough for a AAA title. Why put development effort into a quality mmo when you can try to be Tetris Blitz instead?

Rift has a daily reward, too. Best to log in with your highest level character, some of their rewards are tied to your character level, so higher is better.

I haven't seen that on PoE yet.
