Summerset prequel quest through a veil darkly

I held onto the mages stone so I could so the prequel quest right before heading to summerset....

Now all my mages guild message stones are gone and I can't get/find the quest...

Is it gone? Can I never do this quest now? I'm so confused I held off on morrowind twilight shard prequel fine for morrowind now why is this different.

Does anyone have any helpful advice I really want to do this quest before going to summerset.

So vanus gave me the quest made a tongue in cheek joke about the message stone he was at your character alliances starter main map mages guild so
davons watch ebonpact
Glenumbra daggerfall
Vuhkel guard dominion

I just did this quest a few days ago and also wondered why the stone was no longer in the crown store. I knew you could find Vanus in the Mages Guild somewhere or other, but having watched a playthrough where someone used the stone I kind of enjoyed the extra conversation you get to have with him if you get the quest that way.

Didn't make much sense to me to take away the message stone, so I also wouldn't mind an explanation of why it was done.

it's no longer there because you can port directly to summerset from any wayshrine.
