Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

I've had this idea for a while now, tell me what you think!

Farming System. How awesome would that be to have at our homes? Miniture Greenhouses the size of large tents, or planting pots that we could plant a single crop in and furnish our homes with actual, growing, harvest able, crops.

On to the smaller details, they could be crops like fruits, veggies, herbs, etc and they could all have the small chance of dropping a golden quality crop (such as with fishing you can get Perfect Roe) and it's used in recipes that we already have in game, but it makes the food slightly better for the outcome. For example:

Witchmother's Potent Brew
Increase Max Magicka and Max Health by 3192 and Magicka Recovery by 319 for 2 hours
Nightshade
Bervez Juice
Rice
Small Game

Perfect Withmother's Potent Brew
Increase Max Magicka and Max Health by 3692 and Magicka Recovery by 369 for 2 hours
Nightshade
Bervez Juice
Perfect Rice
Small Game

To get the rice you could plant a large amount of it in a Greenhouse, or single plants in potted plants throughout your home, and after a week of letting them mature to adults (water every other day or so) you harvest it and you have the chance of getting 'Perfect Rice' to use in your new recipe! This is just an example of course to show with my train of thought for it, but it could be a small boost to food items without making them OP.

Some things to add as brought up in the comments:
These farms could be similar to storage chests in the crown store such as you can only have x number of plant able spots per account.
This wouldn't be a 'daily' as personally I think it should take a whole week to grow them, but the better you keep up with them the better the chance you'll have of getting the rarer items, should still be a small chance, but slightly better.

So give me the gory details, good idea that sounds like fun, or stupid idea and it doesn't need to happen. I'd love to discuss it

Of course this is just an example, so don't take that particular recipe to heart!

Tying A valuable and necessary resource to the housing system gives me the spooks for a few reasons.

It's advantageous to those who spent a decent chuck of RL money for the big houses with room for lots of items.

Housing has always been a means of creative expression and personal taste, like playing with leggos. But turning houses into giant multilayer greenhouses (people will do this) with turn housing into something strictly functional.

There's already plenty of daily login bonuses for crafters with writs and hirelings.

On the positive side, I like the idea of indroducing new expensive food types with exotic materials. I like the idea that using The Best Food would be a conscious choice with a real monetary cost.

That is true, but knowing the housing system there could always be a limit based on the house size of how many actual planting spots you can have in a home, like the greenhouse can be 10, potted will be 1, etc and the limit could be set to like 25 or 20. Max being 30 and lowest being 10 depending on the house size, that way it's not a huge advantage

EDIT: Better yet, make it so that per account you can only have x number of greenhouses or pots, like with the storage chests, that way everyone has the same number no matter how many houses you have! Also, these wouldn't be dailies, but you'd only be able to harvest them once a week.

I adored farming in LOTRO, I'd certainly be up for a little farming. Seems like an expensive (to develop) gameplay feature with a potentially very limited demographic, though. I'd love this, but I think ZOS would have to poll for interest.

That's very true. I've actually asked around a couple of my guilds to see how they felt about it and they all showed a lot of interest in it, so it seems very promising!

To add, NPCs can have farms and raise animals, why can't I? I wanna raise crops and cute feathery shadow clucks all day!

Hm. Promising! It was a really relaxing way to pass the time in LOTRO. It was one of its two best features (the other was playing music!).
