Bar swapping and resource pools

Would someone please explain to me what happens (mechanics wise) when I swap between bars with different resource pool values?

Say my max magica on front bar is 40k, but on the back bar is 30k. If I’m at 20k available on front bar (50%), and I swap to back bar, will I have 20k on the back bar or 15k? Or some other amount, and why?

I’ve searched for a few hours and couldn’t find this info anywhere.

Thanks!

The answer to the hypothetical question you asked is 20k. It's not percentage-based, it's just the real values. If you sit on your front bar you will regen back to 40k. As soon as you switch, that extra 10k is lost. As long as you remain under 30k, it won't matter which bar you are on.

The benefit to having more max magicka even though you can't really use it is that your total max magicka is a factor that determines how strong your skills are. Wall of Elements, for example, will tick harder when on the bar that has more max magicka. This is also true for things like spell damage, crit chance, and penetration as well. If you have bonuses stacked more on one bar than the other, it makes sense to try to spend as much time as possible in your rotation on that bar.

So if I am at 100% on back bar, and swap to front, I’m automatically down 10k from max? Seems like I would have noticed that, but with the bars disappearing when out of combat I could see how I missed that.

Thank you for the prompt reply!

You can go to settings and always show your bars
