Is Summerset worth the money?

I have been on the fence regarding the purchase of this last DLC, and haven't made up my mind yet. It sells for 60 Australian dollars, and frankly the price seems a bit steep for just one zone. I mean the whole game sells for less, and how many zones are there?
Sure it adds a new skill line, but eh, I don't find it that great to be honest. On top of that, even if I love exploring new zones, this DLC gives me the impression that I am just going to see an extension of Auridon: same flora and landscapes, slightly different architecture. The new assets don't look terribly exciting either, guards wear the same armor we have seen in the Imperial City DLC, some monsters and creatures are slightly reskinned versions of what we saw in Morrowind (except the griffins), and the new motifs are just meh.
Sooo, is the main quest worth it at least? or is it just a senseless slog like some other main quests in this game? How many hours to complete it? Is it good? No spoilers please.

I have enjoyed it, but your impressions aren’t wrong. It is more of the same. But, that’s what I wanted. If that’s not what you’re looking for, then you’re not missing out on anything major if you wait for a sale.

I enjoyed the main quest and I did side quests as I traveled through the zone. If you zoom through it, it won't take long. If you slow down and enjoy it, I can't tell how many hours, but I got to level 20 on a brand new character.

The main quest does take you to several new areas beyond Summerset, so its not just a brighter and better Auridon.

But,if you aren't sure you'll like it and don't want the psijic order skill line or jewelry crafting right away, wait til its on sale.

I can only speak for myself. The story is - in my eyes - probably the best I have encountered so far out of every other expansion. But this does not mean that other expansions did not had very good quality as well. Still, it is exceptionally good,, perhaps because I like the entire setting. The dungeons are large and the main city is well designed. Vendors are placed very well. In particular I like the north western and south eastern part of the coastline of Summerset a lot.

I guess that you will not like much the Psijic quest, because it is mostly just closing portals all over Tamriel. And you said for yourself that you are not much convinced. So you really have to decide for yourself what you want in the game.

Unsure on conversion rate that seems steep.

Was £20 for us including free Morrowind.

I nearly didn't. Not much in it for me. Not a zone a care about. But £20 a year to support a game i love feels ok.

Jewelry stuff will be handy eventually am sure.

It is worth it to me. I really like the new island, although i was very skeptical at first. But it is beautiful. I like the quests and story. To bad it's short.

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

Save your money Ive been playing since beta and they have nerfed the game so much since then. It real boring to play any more. When you can take a newly made 0 level noobie toon and do the vampire quest and the main quest line and complete by level 16 with just the armor and weapon you started with, its been to nerfed to death. I have completed these 2 quest lines 7 times with a new made toon and have completed them between level 15 and 16 with the gear I start with. Theres no old school challenge to the game any more.

No matter how many defenders want to measure pixels and say this is the biggest zone ever - it's not. It feels pretty small when you play it, but still - the rough size of most other zones. Which is ok.

You get less for your money with this 'expansion' vs Morrowind. Zone = Zone (roughly, though SS feels like there is less to do). New Class > New skill line. Full trial > Mini-trial. Battlegrounds = Jewelry Crafting (though for very different players). So could be worth waiting to get a deal on this DLC.

Also, Jewelry crafting is a serious grind. You cannot break down older jewelry, so if you've saved anything from pre-patch, that won't be use-able and you should be careful navigating guild stores to buy some to break down. (All jewelry, even white, have higher prices now and some players are listing old jewelry for the same prices that you cannot decon either by accident or to take advantage.) As for missing anything with JC - you aren't really yet. If you start months behind, you'll still be able to catch up quickly enough (you just will be most behind on those last couple traits that take months) but you won't be able to craft much anyhow. I have a friend that went at JC hard core day one, got to 50, spent all crowns on research scrolls to learn stuff quickly, etc. He is making ok money making stuff for people to research, but it's so impossibly expensive to get upgrade mats that he's had to turn down people that have asked him to craft set jewelry b/c they didn't realize how expensive it would be. Also, the master writs would done very poorly and for example a purple swift jewelry gives you a 10 voucher reward, but a swift trait stone costs 20 vouchers to buy. So you can tell they like copy pasted some other master writ code and didn't actually look at it. So to summarize, you are not missing anything with jewelry crafting as it stands. Best way to get jewelry is still to get drops or gold vendor and if you get into it a few months down the road, you will be able to catch up quickly enough and there will be more stuff on market, so prices should be more reasonable.

The psijiic line is nice and probably the most worthwhile thing about the expansion as far as useful goes. The zone itself is gorgeous.

If you are into the game, get it, it's fun enough to have more to do; but if you are on the fence, you won't be hurting much by waiting for a sale.

I preordered it to get the mount and fancy stuff.

I completed the main quest on one character, I felt it was underwhelming.

There is more of a focus now on weaving and animation cancelling to perform well, some of the Psijic skills reflect this and this playstyle turns me off. I still hate swapping bars to use abilities much less want to deal with weaving.
I was hoping Summerset would be kind of an High Elf paradise, it does not feel that way to me. Auridon still feels more elf like than summerset.

The expansion feels like more of the same.

Overall I feel it was a waste of money and between the lackluster content, the constant focus on funneling the player base to the cash shop and the recent debacle with ZOS installing 3rd party software used to collect data off your computer I have decided to cancel and uninstall. Although this game has some appeal, the pros do not out weight the cons.

These are my opinions based on my experience in game and not meant as points to argue.

One aspect to consider is how many characters you play. if you're a single character type then value for money for you will be very different than for someone who intends to run multiple characters through the content. For one character, I can understand it being a bit of a valid assessment of value, for multiple characters it's a no-brainer. Then again, however, if you truly enjoy the game do you want to be denied access to all of it?

Short answer no but your gonna buy it anyways soo does it really matter.

ZoS is gonna bleed ya until they finally cant squeeze anymore out (which is fine, its just business) and at that point they will finally allow a new elder scrolls game to be released.

Zennimax will never be able to give you the game you really want but aslong as you keep the money flowing in, they will keep spoon feeding you more of the same

As a super-hater of the Auridon zone, I was also worried that Summerset (and its associated new zones) were going to be gray and boring as well.

It was visually way better than I expected.

I shouldn't have listened to the forumites complaining about stone walls, glass castles, the lack of snow mountains or whatever nonsense they were arguing about a month ago.

Objectively not enough content to justify the price tag, but it’ll be nice to pickup when it goes on sale

If you really enjoy new skill lines (and like to be on top of things for meta reasons, or just new content to make lots of gold off of the rush for said new stuff), and you like questing through new zones/daillies/jewelcrafting, then get it. I found the zone similar to Auridon, but different enough that I wasn't bothered by the similarities.

Be warned though that the psijic skill line is...okay, my personal opinion but the quest line to get and max it was pretty bad. You just run around all over the place and press 'e' while listening to some accented dude make increasingly irritating remarks. However, I am a sucker for new skills. The zone is also rather small.

Based on your OP, I'd wait for a sale.

Best zone since Wrothgar. Beautiful, well written quests and side quests. Morrowind was a complete bore by comparison.

If you have AP you can quickly level Jewelry crafting although research and tempers will take a long while. But if you plan on doing it eventually you are just making it take longer for yourself.

Psiijic line is good for many builds.

So you can wait if you want, but for ESO this is as good as it gets.
