Yes! I agree with this post. Original base game looks rushed compared to DLC zones.

It most likely was rushed. Most games tend to be rushed when trying to be launched. Just ask EA...

Rushed is relative. The game was in development for 7 years before it was released.

It would be really nice if they could continue tweaking vanilla zones as DLC come out. A few years ago they expressed interest in introducing architectural diversity, but haven't done anything with that since. They also said they would revamp every vanilla dungeon and stopped a little more than halfway through. :/

You have to realize they need resources for that. They already had layoffs at ZOS. Zenimax Media tends to run a lean operation, so I doubt they'll get the resources needed for such an undertaking.

No resources can or will be devoted to something that does not immediately generate revenue.

I agree 100% with OP, or epuld make a huge difference immersion wise. But I doubt they will do it, too much cost with little monetary gain... it would be good if they could do it incrementally alongside new DLC, but won't happen unfortunately.

I think the vanilla zones could use a facelift as well.

How difficult would this be for them? I like the idea but is it realistic for them to revisit all the old zones and update the textures?

If they was going to spend the amount of time an resources required to do this, which i highly doubt, i'd rather they spent it all elsewhere

It's a great suggestion and I believe ZoS can certainly look into that in the long run.
However, everyone can agree that we have more pressing matters at the moment. ZoS should not stop creating new content as there is good number of players starting the game. We want this game to live long.

Certainly a good idea and would make a great improvement.

It's important to realize that texture artists do not create quests, do programming, or anything else. They only work on textures. So this is very possible to do without compromising on anything else.

Necroed because the topic exists and is still something I think should happen.

The Dungeons and the DLC have more thought, effort, time, and resources put into them.

If you go back and watch advertisemrnts for ESO from 2013-2014. They almost entiely show off the dungeons becuase they know that the dungeons were some of their best work.
So they need to thake that amount of effort that they put into the dungeons, and DLCs, and put them inot the vanilla zones.

Look at the vanilla motifs. IMO They are bland, generic, and uninspired
Places like Falkreath Hold and Selene's Web actually feel like forests rather than empty plains with some trees spotting the landscape.
The rocks in Vvardenfel and other DLCs are far superior to the ones we see in the base game. The DLCs actually take environment and tone into account when world building and creating assets.

here are vaious shots of base game zones.

I want this so bad. It’s extrememly jarring going from an expansion zone back to the base game. I would imagine it is a huge turn off to new players and would keep some from investing in the expansions. Even if they slowly updated the base zones one at a time I would be incredibly happy.

I also really want this. They could at least update the textures on the old racial armors and FURNITURE, improve water/rock/plant textures, and give each zone appropriate cultural music instead of having the same soundtrack everywhere.

    It's really glaring on furniture...

Actually gate in Skyrim doesn't come from the time when Ysgrammy lived because Windhelm was destroyed.

I agree that at the very least the textures should recieve a bit of a quality bump. Even still though I feel the game even in vanilla zones looks great for 4 years old.

Vast majority of textures in the game have absolute pathetic low resolution, presumably because of the stupid consoles (which is a platform a mmorpg should NEVER be developed for).
