I can't believe that once the game looked like this:

And now it looks like this:

Like, look at the details between the two. The first one looks like computer generated clay, and the second one looks so much better. It's amazing! Bravo ZOS for how far we've come.

The graphics in DLC/Chapter zones are indeed noticeably better than the base game, especially when looking at furniture amd gear sets. Itd be nice to get a texture update for older content.

It's even more crazy when you think about how the first picture is from the version of the game when cloaks and capes were part of it. So that would be sometime in the alpha stages probably.

Also, I agree wholeheartedly. Older zones such as Stormhaven, The Rift, and Greenshade could do with some sprucing up.

agree op.

spent some time today running round a lot of zones... the base game ones are good but then you go to gold coast or hews bane and the difference is marked, then go to summerset and arteum and wow... just stunning.

Well, op, I agree, though you compared 2012 image of alpha staged graphics with the latest offering. Generally, ESO has some amazing graphics, settings and ideas everywhere (from Coldharbour to Summerset!).

Base game zones are also full of detail, I really don't see the fuss. Sure, some stones and rocks are now of a higher res, but the old ones are also good looking and don't interfere with the overall immersion.

That being said, yes of course the latest content has the most detail. I'm especially amazed of Alinor, it's just a majestic city. Detail is so vivid, so crisp. You can sense that a ton of work went there.

If there's one thing where ESO absolutely excels, technically, it's the graphics & music department. I can't get enough of it.

the first one is a screenshot.. the second one look more like a advertisement image... at least it look no where near that detail on my pc..

Most of the year one/ two motifs and sets looked like bad Medieval cosplay. So glad the art department stepped it up. This is FANTASY people! Let’s look fantastical. Yes, a certain muted tone should exist in all ESO stuff, but it was way too toned down.

Actually, both are screenshots. On the homepage for the game, on the media page, under screenshots, you can find both of these.
True, the Summerset one does look a little...crafted...so to speak, with high enough resolution, I'm sure someone could take a picture very similar to it.

I started playing last May and came from playing wow. The first thing that hit me was the graphics and attention to detail..in all the old zones.

I think all the zones are amazing. Some I like better than others....hate, hate, hate fire/lava stuff and I'm constantly going back to old zones to do stuff.

I do think the games look has improved noticeably. But I think the game has always looked great. So now it is a better great...

And really I think a lot of the improvement hascome in style. Now that may be because of improvement in performance but still the first picture would look a lot better if it has the scope of the second. But instead it is dark and closed in by fog.

To cpmpare an ingame shot from pre-launch with a photoshopped marketing pic is somewhat ridiculous. And ZOS does that, no doubt - just compare the ad photo of the circus guar with how it looks ingame.

I mean aside from the early visuals being objectively inferior... one is an in engine in game screen shot and one is a highly polished post edited picture.

Just saying.
