It's probably because of how the system worked at launch where each mount per character had its own stats.
When they moved it over to all mounts per character they also added in the chance to buy riding lessons, I would imagine it's because it's a system whilst frustrating still earns them some revenue via sales of books on the Crown Store.

Probably for the same reason you can't send your brother to class in your place if you want to learn something, since you are training your characters' riding skill.
Well...if you believe that...then I assume you feel that CP shouldn't be shared across characters then? (under the same principle)

"Feeding your mount" is a remnant of the previous system that Turelus described. No mounts have been fed since Tamriel Unlimited came out.
That said, I never felt the need to buy crown scrolls. Closest I've got was getting them from the free crown crates.
Now excuse me while I go train my most recent character.

I was just suggesting that we could upgrade every character's mount from one character (rather than having to log each one on)...you would still have to pay the cost (250g) per and each would level independantly...it would just serve to eliminate the annoying need to log each and every character into game and move to a stable...it wouldn't change how fast each leveled or the cost or any of that...so there would be no change with the riding lesson scrolls...if you wanted to level your character's skills faster you would still need to purchase those. It just really sucks to have to go through the load screens in and out in order to upgrade the damn things...I would find it hard to believe anyone liking it
ooph! Right sorry, yeah this would be nice. I've also in the past said it would be nice to be an option from the character select screen. It's probably because of how the system worked at launch where each mount per character had its own stats.

Even if there are reasons not to have mounts upgrade for the account rather than per character...It would be hella nice to be able to feed them all from one character...no?

Mounts are no longer "fed".Even if there are reasons not to have mounts upgrade for the account rather than per character...It would be hella nice to be able to feed them all from one character...no?

The horse stats are still tied to the character as they were at launch. The only change is the upgrades were merged and shared across all mounts the character had.
So the character would still need to be doing the feeding of their own mounts either way. It is really that simple as to why we need to swap characters to feed mounts.

Instead the caracters themselves train their "riding skills".
As such, I can see why you can manage each only from the character it concerns...
...what vexes me a lot more tho is that riding training does not stack like enlightment. Bummer for those people who cannot log in every day due to work, but play more on the weekends...
Buuuuttttt... I guess since they want to sell crown store riding lessions, we can't realyl expect them to change anything here. (Still not gonna buy those, I don't care if my alts need another year or two to finally max their horses...)
Its really a dumb setup..
Just think of how many logins and logouts the server now has to deal with with thousands of alts a day taxing the login servers..
over lazy dev coding..

As someone pointed out earlier, Zos still makes some bank off riding lessons so that is very unlikely.
