I am writing this more as an encouragement to the PvE Quester players like me who have a Stamina character, want Vigor and Caltrops, but absolutely hate PvP.
Most of these players complain that it 'takes so long' to level up the Alliance skill lines in order to get those two skills- with Vigor at level 5 and Caltrops at level 6. Well, I got both skills in 4.5 hours of PvPing in Cyrodiil late Friday morning in Vivec... so NO it does not take 'so long' to get those skills. I followed some advice and, having leveled both Magicka (Destro/Resto) and Stamina (Bow/DW/2H) skills on my Imperial Nightblade, I simply converted him back to Magicka and spent those 4.5 hours simply as a HEALER. I died numerous times, but I got used to it and didn't let it bother me, in fact it was somewhat fun. I had already crafted Impenetrable gear, so I didn't die as easily as I would have without some preparation in with gearing properly.
Overall it was not bad and I consider it time well spent to get those very beneficial skills for a Stamblade. Since then, I've been enjoying my Stamblade character much better than I ever had... I had shelved this Nightblade character a couple months ago after leveling him and becoming frustrated with survivability. Now, using Purple food, I can cloak past enemies if I don't feel like engaging every single mob in a quest, or I can fight... so the options are perfect to allow me to play whatever style I'm in the mood for.
Anyway, I just wanted to share, and hopefully encourage those Stamina PvE questers who are reluctant to spend some time in Cyrodiil to get those skills because of the fear of 'taking so long'... no, 4.5 hours was not too long IMO, and can be somewhat fun as long as you don't take dying often too seriously.

You'll get to have some variety in your objectives and you won't have to spend half your time on horseback.

Maybe next time, actually read the OP instead of quoting it and whining after.usmguy1234 wrote: »I am writing this more as an encouragement to the PvE Quester players like me who have a Stamina character, want Vigor and Caltrops, but absolutely hate PvP.

Yeah, because it's not like the bis gear for pvp isn't locked behind pve content. I remember the weeks it took me to grind lich... that restro staff is a pain in the arse to get. Yet they complain about a few hours of pvp.
@Sergykid you'll get minimum 7k AP per match, and that's if you lose, and lose horribly.i've wanted vigor and caltrops on my pve off-chars, but it takes a bit of time in Cryodill. For the duration of a saturday evening, i couldn't do basically anything on one of my pve off-chars in pvp. I don't want to gear it up and learn it to play for pvp, since it will not be used for that, just wanted those three spells (+horn).
Typed LFG every minute but nobody invited me. I would just go to whatever keep was under attack by my faction, which would take 20-30 minutes, or maybe even end up a fail, and since i am not in a group, because nobody invites people to groups either with /s or /z chats, i would only take 6-7k AP.Merlin13KAGL wrote: »Or do BG's at 7-12k AP a pop
if i lose a BG i still get AP? how much? does this AP count toward the skill line? it would definitely be faster even if i just drag my team down with my pve off-chars for a few games until i reach level 6
@VaranisArano Cyrodiil is awesome in its own right, no doubt.VaranisArano wrote: »I've leveled both magicka and stamina characters through Cyrodiil for alliance war skills. (I'm sure Battlegrounds is effective, I just prefer Cyrodiil)
For magicka characters, I was most effective running as a healer. Equip a resto staff and throw heals on any ally you see as you zerg surf or join a PUG group.
For stamina characters, I was most effective with a bow, trying to tag every enemy player I hit with at least a light attack.
Either way, leveling alliance war skills in Cyrodiil means getting there for the keep captures and defenses. If you have a slow horse, I recommend focusing on defense. Pay attention to zone callouts and try to port to keeps before they flag. If you have a fast horse, its a lot easier to rush to fights and try to help capture keeps.
