Easiest Stam Setup (PvE DPS)

Hey all:

I’m looking for some advice on a PvE DPS setup for a stam toon. Up until now I’ve only played magicka classes, current main is a Magden.

I recently got lucky in VMA and got a bow, which I retraited to Nirn.

My options are NB, Warden, or Sorc for toons that I have max level. Any suggestions for a class that has a fairly easy rotation, and potential gear setups to pair with the character would be helpful.

Thanks!

Stamsorc is pretty easy because you can heal yourself while buffing/doing damage (Crit Surge), and you can damage enemies while buffing your defense (Hurricane).

It's not BIS, but I enjoy the following build on a Stamsorc:

5 Briarheart (more crits, more healing, weapon damage buff)
5 Spriggan (penetration and max stats)
2 Slimecraw (minor berserk and more crit)

You can run Briarheart weapons on one bar with your VMA bow on the other bar. Once you drop Endless Hail switch your bar to activate Briarheart, or do it in reverse if you want. Pretty simple.

Thanks! How much of a skill gap is it for the top stam class (NB I assume), and the sorc?

Thanks again for such a quick reply. I may try the sorc out!

That's probably a better question for top PVE Nightblade players. If you have a great team with you, then Nightblade should allow you to do more damage.

I like Sorc when I'm unsure about my team (random dungeons, for example) because I can better keep myself alive while still doing damage.

Night and day difference, stamsorc has one of easiest rotations in the game, only easier than it would be magsorc.
Now to stamblade, it has THE hardest rotation in the game, only rotation that comes close is magblade but even that is easier . Frankly, if you manage to get the rotation down pretty good (like top 5% of stamblade players) you will find it trivial to understand another’s class rotation in a matter of minutes and put it down with good results in a few hours.
That being said, actually getting there means a metric ton of effort and time so the majority of players give up on the class. If you’re just looking for an alt i’d suggest stamplar since it’s always welcome in a group or a stamdk(relatively as hard as stamsorc, should be more dps this patch and by far the coolest animations)

Understood, I don’t have a max lvl DK, but I do have a Templar that I could potentially race change... i don’t know much about the stamplar/rotation/ gear setups, any recommendations?

There are a lot of set combos this patch, because relequen’s bugged you probably don’t want it on stamplar but on a stamblade in a group so you can safely use WM and Yokeda, as for the rotation, all i know is you have to do 2 Potl per rotation for Minor Fracture and Minor Breach uptime, this setup should be the best in terms of group utility.

It really depends on your play style. I have a MagSorc and StamDK for PvE dps. Having the Sorc is really fun if you pug a lot and find yourself having to tank, dps, and heal yourself all at the same time and not really pay attention too much. Stuff just kinda melts and you are just along for the ride. Doing something like a stamDK has really cool options and I feel is a tad bit more connected to what you are doing. The rotations are more involved, but I wouldn't say "harder". It is a huge difference from Mag classes and it is really really fun too depending on the build and your mood.
I have some characters, play the game and do stuff. It's fun sometimes.

Hunding's Rage and Spriggans Thorns is the easiest setup for all stam dps.

I think Stamplar might be the easiest as they have a lot more self healing but they have a bit lower dps.

Stamsorc is your answer, even if you gave all 5 options. NB is the most difficult by a LONG shot, but it has the highest damage potential. Stam DK actually has a slightly easier rotation than sorc in my opinion, but they dont have the utility or heals that a sorc does. Stam DK will win Pure single target, but sorc will win AOE damage, and the single target is still very good.

I would only go stam warden for PVP. Same could be said for stamplar, but they do have a Niche use in PVE trials for Power of the Light (debuff).

They are barely playing the same game. NB (both magic and stam), is on a different level of rotation difficulty than that other 4 classes. Stam Sorc is so much more forgiving, and has far fewer things to manage. I am not saying dont play stamblade, but your title makes it very hard for me to recommended it. On a scale of difficulty, Stamblade is a 10, stam sorc is like a 4.5. Haha.

If your goal is to break into a stamina class, sorc is absolutely the best way to do it. If you want to play stamblade, well, I would master mageblade and another stam class first before you even give it a try, but that is just me. I have known a lot of people that try to tackle stamblade out of the gates and they get really frustrated because they dont see the damage they are after.

The VMA bow is a pillar to any strong stam DPS.

I really like my StamWarden. It may not be top tier DPS, but this guy is tough and decent. It’s dps revolves around sub assault. Hundings/VO/Veledreth. I recently switched from NMG. It was a good switch.

StamSorc is really strong. No one can deny. Someone put in my head to use automaton on Sorc. It is pretty good.

It was said NB. They have the highest Damage ceiling, but are very tricky to get it with. They’re very strong even if you don’t bother with relentless.

Depending on what you’re doing, I’d have a hard time not using VO on any stam toon. Maybe it’s not best in slot or something, but it’s pretty good. Hundings is also a solid Stam set.

    @kylewwefan

You do know that next patch, that will be a redundant combo, right? Both Sub Assault and NM give the same debuff.

As to gear, there are a lot of ways to go about it. Next patch, I think you are going to see for the most part a damage set paired with a penetration set. Sunder and NM are now dead sets in an organized group, and they are dead sets on Stam DK, Stamblde, and Stam Warden even when solo because they have access to major fracture in their rotation.

    Best pen sets: TFS, Spriggans.

Best Damage Sets: Relequen, VO, War Machine (all from trials), Hundings (crafted), and Automaton (dungeons, but really only for sorcs.) A few spec can probably make use of Mech Acuity as well, but it got beat with the nerfhammer pretty hard.

Pair 2 together best you can and combine with a monster set.

Nope, no pen sets, just a switch from Warrior mundus to Lover. Justifiable because stamina currently has very strong sets like relequen, advancing, ravager that aren't worth passing for a penetration set.

Here I am with 3 sets of golded out NMG. Hmph. Maybe it’s still good on Stamplar or StamSorc?

Everyone I know has been farming advancing yokeda like mad. I’m not seeing how this can be that much better than leviathan? And to get the weapons....what a freaking grind.

Nmg on stam sorc will be excellent in vma next patch, that’ll fill in the missing gap for stam sorcs

Advancing Yokeda is way better than leviathan because with a proper rotation the crit from the 5 piece doesn't fall off on the back bar, I managed 96% uptime on the 5th stack on a stamblade.

Nightblade with dual wield and bow. It's fun and competitive. And you will have option to become stealthy if you want to invest the skill points.
