Twitch purchases are now available but prices!?

It looks like we can now make purchases through twitch for things like ESO plus and get a free crate:

https://twitch.tv/directory/game/The%20Elder%20Scrolls%20Online/details

I was planning on buying my ESO plus through this but I checked the price and it's $17.99 for 30 days. I'm in the UK and it's normally £8.99 for 30 days, but going through twitch it costs £13.39, damn near 50% more expensive for just a single crate. Is this a mistake?

But even for Americans that's more expensive - 30 days of ESO+ is normally $15 isn't it?

ZOS Online Store - £8.99 GBP 30 Days
    Twitch Store - $17.99 (£13.3910 via xe.com)

So basically not worth it for UK people, unless I am missing an option to buy in GBP from Twitch.

Seems like $17.99 is the price for people outside of the US, at least for people in EU. Still wondering if it's a mistake.

    +20% "tax" for Europe...pretty standard. (14.99 * 1.2 = 17.988) rounds up to 17.99

Yeah but if you buy from ZOS directly the price, with tax included, is £8.99 which is $12 at the current exchange rate. So we're being charged $5 extra for no apparent reason.

For me, in US Dollars, the Twitch prices are the same as the Bethesda prices for ESO Plus in each of the three durations.

Usually yes - mostly 1€ = $1 if you want to buy anything. But this is a bit too far.

Well that's certainly true for a lot of things but not usually for indentical online services IME. Sometimes we get screwed on the exchange rate for that type of thing but this is just a flat USD price increase just for being outside the US.

It seems to me that they simply set up a US price, and added VAT to it for the EU. That means we got a more expensive option. I have no idea if it's possible to make something like regional pricing, but currently it's simply a bad idea to buy anything for ESO through Twitch...

    Value Added Tax: (https://www.investopedia.com/terms/v/valueaddedtax.asp)

VAT: Value Added Tax is 20% of the same price for consumer goods. In the USA prices are always shown before taxes, in the UK they are shown including tax. So this makes american goods look artificially cheap (you actually pay more when you go to buy), plus UK tax tends to be higher.

Well I highly doubt twitch is buying the subscription from ZOS, it's not a manufactured good or physically stored in some secret twitch vault to sell it. There isn't really an extra step in the supply chain.

I think you're missing the point here. Valve/Steam sells the goods for the same price ZOS asks themselves, including VAT.

The whole thing is just messed up. It's probably an "issue" with how the twitch store is set up. They don't have a localized store and just, as you calculated earlier, add EU tax to whatever the publisher says they should ask for goods if they are registered from the EU. They don't give a flying guar poop wether or not it'll make it more expensive and very undesireable to EU customers that way.

That said, I'd appreciate it if ZOS could pull some strings and make a change in that regard. I would've probably made a few purchases, but paying an extra 20% on top of what ZOS or Valve asks makes it a no go.

I'm in the EU, but not the eurozone and I see the prices in USD. They're about the same for crown packs as the ones in my own currency that I see here on the website, but subscription is 10-20% more expensive.
