You follow the main Summerset quest until it sends you to Artaeum, then you have to pick up the Psijic quest from Loremaster Ceralus or something. It starts with visiting a delve to find the Augur, then a grand tour of locations in Summerset to close time rifts. You probably accidently continued with the main Summerset quest with Raz which I heard several people doing.
Once you complete that, then it is more scavenger hunts/tourism for the rest of Tamriel.
I really didn't feel like it took too long. But I had all of the ports available. I do kinda wish there was a little more interaction at the portal like some foreboding image or glimpse of that zones main story or enemies. Just something to hold interest.
Psijic is intended to get new players outside their starter zones and exploring the rest of Tamriel, which it does well.
Definitely a bit of grind if you play lots of characters but individually I don't think it so bad.
I just finished grinding Psijic order story to max out the skill line. 10 hours straight. No breaks and hardly any wayshrines discovered. I am a very visual person when it comes to gaming and it looks amazing! Skills are very useful too. Especially the healing one. My mag blade now feels less evil and more arcane. Grind wasn't the most fun except for the Augurs commentary (great job on voice acting right there! Anyone knows who is the voice actor?) but you can go through it in one day. Haven't tested in PvP yet as Cyrodiil is very empty at the moment.
What are your thoughts so far?

hey man if your an zos shill op you're not doing your job well. This *** takes way to long.
It's by far the fetchiest skill line we've seen thus far, I don't see me doing this twice unless I absolutely have to. At least the mages guild is only for Magicka characters, so half of my characters but 2 would only ever use Meteor.

Haha! That was the 1st thing I thought too. I also was expecting to see at the end:
"If you want to see just how great & awesome this 10 hour straight grind is, subscribe to my Twitch/YouTube channel!"
I love the jewelry leveling compared to this bs.

I have no connection to ZOS nor am I a streamer. Now that I read my post back it does sound oddI typed it after 12 hours straight of ESO!

Unless you ride through each zone without porting, you end up with something like 15-20 loadscreens per psijic level/quest stage, so half your time is spent in loadscreens rather than actually playing.

That was an annoying part I agree. And a ton of gold spent on teleportation to shrines, since I was too lazy to run around the invisible walls half the time.
