I liked someone's idea of a toggle. But even a toggle seems... unneeded? PvP is only really a thing in one zone, so just don't go there? I get needing stuff from PvP and all, but I don't think paying to max out skill lines is the solution here.

I'd much rather them make PvP more fun and accessible to non hardcore players.

Fine with me, PvP is a waste. I'd only want the opt-out though, the rest is p2w and not needed. You want that you PvP.

I think the problem with this is there's no going back after getting the token. I only recently got into PvP properly as I always found PvE more interesting and enjoyed questing. If I had chosen to get one of these tokens a few years ago when I didn't like PvP then I would never have had the opportunity to get into it more recently.

So no. Don't lock out things to players and don't add tokens that unlock skill lines in the Crown Store. Just play the game and enjoy yourself.

Make the token simply make the player unattackable for other players. Just like in regular zones. This way you still have to go get things and explore. Any quest or action that would require some kind of PvP action would be unobtainable, though. So you can't go pick up a scroll or whatever.

Alliance war abilities should still require PvP. Those abilities were made for PvP and they should remain for PvP. Using the token would lock you out of being able to even put points into anything until you've disabled it. It would also have a timer, so you can't just enable and disable at a whim. Like enabling it would grant you 30 days of no PvP. Disabling would grant you 30 days without the token. You wouldn't be able to enable or disable until that timer was up.

With those changes to the idea, I'd make the token free. It's simply a way to opt out of being zerged.

Nope. Those skill points are specifically there are as a reward for people who explore Cyrodil. They are not a make-or-break factor for PvE builds, though. It’s a pretty small number compared to what you can get outside of Cyrodil.

Besides, paying real money to get that kind of skill boost sounds shady. I’m not a fan of that idea.

I'd rather just see em make a separate server for PVP with completely different rulesets for pve and pvp servers. It'd stop ZOS nerfing one for the benefit of the other.

As to whether or not I'd log in to a pvp only server....maybe. Most pvp in MMO's is bleh and filled with the type people that offend me simply by knowledge that we share a species. It'd depend on how it was set up.

Would you pay 2,000 Crowns for a token that:

Permanently turns off the ability to exit Cyrodiil
Gives you all the Skyshards from Overland & DLC zones
Unlocks all the Guild skill line abilities

Do I really need to explain how stupid this is?

I don't think this is the answer.

I am not a PVPer. I'm not good at it at all. So I have not done any of that content and I probably won't unless my absolutely amazing guild (shout out to Bacon Rats!) hosts a DC Cyro run for skyshards and delve diving.

I'm a little sad about this, because I am a completionist at heart, but I also understand that PVP is an aspect of this game.

Do I wish I could toggle off PVP to be able to do the things in the zone and not get jumped by other players? Sure! But it utterly defeats the point of a PVP zone to do that.

Maybe make it impossible or harder for people to camp the areas where skyshards or quests are to make it easier for people to avoid PVP without changing the way the zone works inherently?

I used to loathe the PVP, like really bad. I'm not into being competitive.

A couple of years ago I decided I want to clear every dolmen on Tamriel, which included Cyrodiil also. I did it bit by bit, went into Cyrodiil only when my faction ruled almost every part of Cyrodiil and used sneak to get to the dolmens ans it was a success. I didn't PVP at all and I continued my loathing of PVP.

A couple of weeks ago I got a crazy idea to try to get every skyshard in Tamriel. After I got every single one except Cyrodiil and IC, I started to question my idea. But then, I got another idea, what if I combine the skyshard hunt and the caltropa grind? I farmed my first 80k AP without PVPing a bit, only repairing walls. I noticed it cost way too much gold to be a good idea. I saw a massive amounts of players heading from the keep I was repairing to the enemy gate and I decided to tag along them - I got my first 2 skyshards behind the enemy gates.

The first PVP encounter was stressful, I was with a zerg running towards destination unknown and we reached enemy keep. After a while, I got a couple of kills/assists and then I was slain. Well, it didn't feel bad, so I decided I'd tag along the zerg. I got my caltrops and sighed from relief, no more mandatory PVP, but oh, the skyshards.

Thanks to previous zerg surfing experience, I didn't loathe PVP and I saddled up my camel, casted rapid manouvers and rode across the Cyrodiil picking skyshards left and right. Only problem was the last 2 skyshards, because they were behind enemy gates also. I decided to wait for our alliance to make the push for the scrolls and to tag along them to get the missing ones and now, I finally am able to purchase that decorative skyshard for my house and I got something extra: I don't loathe PVP anymore, even though I'm still not good at it. I even might try to build my pve character for the PVP and give it a try sometime.

Because my experience, I think we do not need a token for PVP opt-out. I think I should've tried it a long time ago, because it was fun, and so I think many of you who also detest PVP should try it too. Grind Caltrops, go get those skyshards and maybe flip the bird at Molag Bal while destroying his anchors and enjoy the ride. Worst thing that can happen in Cyrodiil is that you die, but you don't lose anything by dying in Cyrodiil. (Well, except the time it took you to travel to your death)

There's plenty of PvP guilds for all levels of experience - just get in there and have fun! This is P2W. I PvP and have PvE skyshards and what not on my characters I haven't gotten and probably too lazy ever to go and get, does this mean I'll get a PvE opt out?

    You sure are thin skinned.

I'm no expert at pvp but sometimes i like to hop there. Also the part of where you could be in danger while getting skyshards and delving or questing is ok.

Agreed but for everyone there are 4 skyshards that a real pain to get and its the ones locked behind the scroll gates for the two opposing factions.... its a nightmare as it requires keeps to unlock so you have to be on at the right time when your faction is able to push that hard.

Tbh...they should just move those 4 skyshards locked behind enemy gates too somewhere on the map, the scrolls are why people unlock those gates not the skyshards.. *sigh*

First of all, it's 4 skyshards. That's 1.3 skill points.

Second, it's very possible to get them just by keeping an eye on Cyrodiil and if you see the gates are open, just go for them.

I have all the skyshards behind the gates on several characters of different factions and others are only missing 1 or 2 if they have set foot in Cyrodiil (some of them haven't yet.

Yes, it requires some patience, but it's not as hard as people think. I actually got the two AD skyshards on my DC character the other day when I was going to Cyrodiil to get the IC skyshards with a couple of friends. EP was doing a scroll run and we managed to sneak in and grab both of them without much issue.

There could be a tutorial campaign where only players with less than 100 hours of PVP (or Cyrodiil) play time are allowed. It would help to get at least the basic ideas before getting insta-killed in seconds during your first approach towards a keep. I know that you should check first about gear and what to do (and to avoid) before going to Cyro, but it could help getting more people into PVP.

Plus that token sounds like a very bad idea no matter how you look at it.

I hate PvP, always have. Massive group fights can be fun but usually the experience (I'vehad really good and really bad ones) isn't enough of a draw for me to do it consistently. While it would be nice to have the abilities and the skyshards and not have to deal with those certain players who (rather than truly enjoy the concept behind the PvP) just want to get their jollies off by going out of the way to make everyone hate being in the area, I don't think I would ever lock myself out of the zone completely.

Due to life constraints, I'm as close to a casual PvE-er as you can get these days, I don't have time to really PvP or do most group content and I still wouldn't lock myself out, even if I could get the skills etc by doing so.

Because at the heart of it all, no matter what game play I'm into, I came here because I love the ES settings. Yeah it's going to suck that every single area is contested, and I might get ganked even though I'm careful, but I still LOVE visiting places from Oblivion. I like walking around and seeing what it was "like" in the past and knowing what the place will turn into.

I get the mentality behind the OP though. It is frustrating that some things are considered a must have and to get them you have to do things in game you don't enjoy. But I still wouldn't voluntarily lock myself out of content because there are times when I DO want to go experience it.

I don’t think is the solution for PVE players who only wanna do quests, skyshard hunt or fish for the achievements. However how about something like safe mode from GTA - for those who don’t know about GTA and safe mode, basically in an online session a player can open up a quick menu and select an option called safe mode which means that the griefers can’t touch them - the balance to this is that this player cannot become a CEO or Motorcycle club chief, meaning this player cannot run any of their businesses while in safe mode.

Now in ESO we obviously don’t have businesses, CEO, MCC’s, etc. A couple of ideas to balance this -
    1. Auto-disables when near a keep/resource that’s under siege - players who are just PVE-ing should not have any business near a keep/resource - towns however are a different story (no idea how to balance it around towns, well unless zenimax undo their mistake and remove the PVP element from towns since they are quest hubs) - also within IC it would auto-disable if the player goes near a flag (The auto-disable zone would have to be small, so maybe just the area where the flag sits?)
    2. If the player decides to disable in order to attack an enemy then safemode is disabled for the duration of the session for that one player. (This option seems a little harsher but it reduces the chance of players using safe mode as an exploit to gank)
    3. If the player has a PVP quest (bounty boards, scroll quests etc.) then safemode is auto-disabled until these quests are handed in.
    4. Costs 0 crown per use, however could cost I dunno say 5k in gold? - in GTA this mode is free (both virtual and real world money) - gold cost needs to be low enough that PVE players will be able to pay the toll, yet high enough that PVPers may think twice about using it to exploit.
    5. There would have to be a visual cue to let players know they’re in safe mode - GTA makes the player transparent/see through

Sorry for the unusually long post - Also just want to point out that there’s probably better ways to balance this idea out I just typed the first ideas that came to mind.

Not that anyone will care, but I would happily pay CP for a safe mode sort of thing, where I could enjoy the PvE stuff and wander around areas I enjoyed from the single player games and not participate in PvP. To go along with some of your suggestions, maybe whatever enabled "safe mode" would have invisible walls too (or something)? So that you don't "accidentally" wander into a keep range for example and you have to manually disable it, so you can't then complain that you didn't "realize" you were getting yourself into PvP.

Not that I expect any of this to ever happen but as a PvE fan of the single players games, I'd be all for a way to explore fond zones without participating in aspects I don't have time for.

Voted NO. I hate this idea.

Even though I don't PVP often, I do enjoy jumping in now and then for a change of pace. I die in a heartbeat but I have a lot of laughs along the way.

The ONE thing I don't like is the 3 skyshards that are behind the faction gates. A lot of things have to come into play to be able to run in there and grab that shard and if you don't play PVP regularly they are almost impossibly hard to get.. making the Skyshard Achievement pretty well a no-go for many PVEers. I have the full Fishing achievement and don't mind sneaking through zones for shards in delves etc. but it would be nice if those 3 shards were somehow a little more accessible so PVEers had a better shot at the achievement. Four years playing and still haven't managed to be in the right place at the right time for the EP one lol.

Not sure what a solution would be.. I guess best would be to not include those 3 in the Tamriel Skyshard Achievement, give them their own PVP cheevy. I think for a PvE player to go and get all the delve ones in Cyrodiil and not those 3 should be enough for the Achievement to be able to buy a skyshard for their homes. I like to have to earn things, no problem with that at all, I just think those 3 can be a little impossible for the part-time PvPer and totally out of reach for the non PvPer. All Achievements that involve things crossing all zones (like shards) should be attainable for all players.

Have always maintained that pvp and pve should have been kept completely separate.

    Ie:

Full world pvp - on the PVP server.

Full world pve - on the PVE server.

And that you make your server choice at character creation.
