[suggestion] Mounted Combat skill line + New weapon and location to go with it.

I know this has been suggested before but bear with me.

New Location: The Flats (could be south of Alkir in some of the desert. This is where you unlock the skill line as the flats people are highly skilled in mounted combat.

New Weapon type: The lance/spear - a hybrid of one hand and shield and two handed. Can be used off the mount the lance might have a group effect where if used defence is increased (phalanx wall).

The Skill line: First skill would be to be able to use any one handed weapon (potentially a staff as well, could be a morph allows staff whereas the other morph would allow use of the bow).
Other skills would represent general mount roles e.g. Scout allows you travel faster on mount and is used to escape, Cataphract, makes you and your horse tanky so you can't fall of
the horse as easily and take more damage. Then you have shock cavalry which allows for a charge ability, having a lance equipped may give a bonus to this ability.

    Scenario...

Galloping toward a DK, a battle cry roars from your lips, your hair flying in the wind, your sword/lance aimed with deadly intent...

DK knocks you off your horse, your pinned to the deck, DK flame lashes you to death, DK sits on your face and then jogs off...

    Oh the fun of it.

For mounted combat horseriding would need a major rework not to mention complete new skill line and a set of new animations. It could be great if done correctly but well, you know, don't hold your breath on that one.

I would go for mounted combat. Sounds like some interesting fun to be had on the battlefield.

Being that it cannot be used everywhere I do not see this being considered. Zos has stated they do not want people having to relearn combat when going from PvE to PvP and visa versa even though the two are naturally different.

Edit: And it would restrict players from using skills they currently use since most skills dismount the rider. Obviously this could be changed but is another piece of effort that adds to reasons the idea would not happen.

Was also meant to be useable in cyrodil as well

Can you imagine the cries to nerf zergs after such an implementation? I personally think it would be interesting but Im not sure how well it would take off here.

There is a game I need not name that is based on a fantasy world created by a real world renowned author. Some time ago I stopped playing that game after being a staunch advocate of it. Why did I stop playing such an otherwise wonderful game? The answer in its simplest; mounted combat was introduced and was dire and so much so as to make the game unplayable.

In that other game, mounted combat looked wonderful as a prospect and, when integrated and working correctly, looked amazing in online videos. Unfortunately for many players including myself and a friend the reality was that mounted combat was clunky, unreliable and appeared implemented extremely poorly. The fact that mounted combat got many, many complaints on the forums of the game that were not only downplayed by 'white knights' but also dismissed by the developer (threads locked or removed almost as soon as started) did nothing to convince players that mounted combat was as great as the developers insisted it was and without error. The rubber banding, misfiring of skills and other issues reported got the, somewhat cliched, responses in the forums like; 'learn to play' and 'dude get a better computer'. When players with lots of experience in game (and with other games) tried to explain such they were 'shouted down' or flamed. Those reporting poor mounted combat performance while using a PC with excellent stats were accused of lying or trying to flash their e-peen about. The same happened to those reporting excellent internet connect or both excellent connection and stats.

If mounted combat was integrated into ESO it would have to be done excellently and in a way that worked for all players. This is not only a difficult proposition for Zos but could be potentially very embarrassing or even fatal for the game if not done right.
