Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

It appears if you have Morrowind the game automatically starts a new character in Morrowind

At least that is what happened to me upon starting a new character after returning to the game and buying the Summerset Expansion.

Yes it does. ZOS wants all the new players who bought the game because of the new chapter to be thrown directly into that chapter, which means we're going to get a new tutorial Quest every year now, and the Wailing Prison will now be an optional starter to the main story Questline.

It's not old news to a rather new player, or a player that's been away for a long time like the OP.

You could make another account and not buy morrowind.

Okay...I will keep that in mind if I ever want to visit the old starting areas.

As I mentioned in another thread, Wailing Prison is NOT 'optional' for the main story quest, it is a REQUIREMENT to do the base game main story quest. You don't need it to complete the 'chapter' main quest, but if you want to do the base game main story and receive all those skill points, then you MUST complete the Wailing Prison.

New characters start out doing the Morrowind tutorial but you do not have to stay in Morrowind. If you prefer, there is a boat near Vivec that will take you back to the mainland. Then you get a quest to go visit someone and the Wailing Prison sequence starts.

Editing to correct it because I forgot.

Yes, you do, I tested it out with a High Elf I made in Aldmeri. I think it dumped me out in Elden Root and I had to travel back to the first large zone for Aldmeri - the name of which I forget. Quite a bit of travelling but you shouldn't have to worry about dying.

Yep. If you have Summerset, its going to start your new characters in Summerset.

Will there be a new tutorial that existing characters cannot play and who will miss out on a skill point, like with Morrowind?

You miss out on a whole skillpoint if you've created your char before owning Morrowind.

I made a pretty big thread on both the morrowind and summerset beta forums, both were ignored and it looks like we are getting yet another missable skillpoint :/

Lol, you're about a year behind this topic. Many people, including myself, have suggested an option of start points to be chosen from the character creation screen, but like most suggestions, it fell on the dead ears of the devs, who, for some reason, do t seem to care much about what small improvements the players want. The devs want the new zones to seem full, but if I start a new character, and I don't want to start in Summerset, I'm going to leave immediately.

It's actually better starting in Vv with a new toon than the Wailing Prison. To me, Vv is just a better welcoming sight. Ha ha

Someone has a legitimate question, instead of allegedly thoughtful "discussion" [aka trolling/baiting] threads repeatedly created by another poster who won't be named, and this is your helpful, contributing to the discussion comment? And you wonder why others have the reactions to your threads that they do?

Perhaps the op should have phrased it differently...."All new players should have to complete Morrowind before being allowed to do any other content so they'd git gud." Or something like that....That would have been "discussion", I guess.

What I wish is that if you have the adventurer pack to play any race in any alliance, that you also get to choose which storyline to play through. I’m a DC only player becuase PvP is my thing, but I’d really like the option to level new toons in the other storylines.

Or just go to the starting areas and pick up quests.

"Not to be rude but isn't this old news?" lol

Morrowind and Summerset both have a tutorial/intro quest that grants a skill point if you create a new character during that chapter.

    - If character is created during summerset then they can do summerset's tutorial (but not morrowind's) and get a skill point.
    - If character is created during morrowind then they can do morrowind's tutorial (but not summerset's) and get a skill point.
    - If character is created before morrowind then they can't do either chapter's tutorial and also can't get a skill point (this is ***).

One problem with starting a new character with Vvardenfell is that ZOS left out a bunch of books that advance your skills, especially in crafting. That was brought up in the Morrowind PTS, but never got corrected. I hope they corrected this oversight in Summerset, but I have my doubts :)

You can do the Morrowind one or skip it and go from Seyda Neen by Boat to your Capital City, there a Figure will appear and send you on your Way to become the Soulles Vestige :)
