Honestly, as a magicka sorc (Breton) I just basically stay Stage 1 and don't even bother with any vamp abilities. Why be a vampire then? Just because I like them.

I don't use any skills, just have it for passives. More tanky, more Mag and stam recovery, quicker moving in stealth. I just heal more often when taking fire damage, not much of a deal.

I noticed the veiny look on my Dunmer, but, the stage 4 appearance on my Argonian and Khajiit is only bad for the albino look. I guess that's what the skeleton polymorph is for, right? lol

If you are a vampire, what stage do you try to stay at, and how do you deal with the negatives?

    What negatives?

Just in case you aren't being a smartass lol

While you have Vampirism stage 1:
0% Flame Damage taken, 0% Vampire Ability cost reduction, 0% Health Recovery reduction

While you have Vampirsim stage 2:
15% Flame Damage taken, 7% Vampire Ability cost reduction, 25% Health Recovery reduction

While you have Vampirism stage 3:
20% Flame Damage taken, 14% Vampire Ability cost reduction, 50% Health Recovery reduction

While you have Vampirism stage 4:
25% Flame Damage taken, 21% Vampire Ability cost reduction, 75% Health Recovery reduction

Those negatives. 25% extra flame damage seems a bit high, especially since fire appears to be in every dungeon, and in most it is in HUGE amounts... Plus, 75% health recovery reduction can be a bit of an issue, so, just trying to see how each of us is handling it, share the tips and tricks! If using the drain ability is enough for you, and you never have to deal with fire, then Kuta's to you! But, I think a lot of people struggle with the idea of wanting stage 4 vampire stuff, and the overwhelming amount of fire, plus loss of natural healing =/ Just wanted to see what everyone is doing to combat those problems.

That 25% flame damage has to go through your resistances so it's really not that bad. There's a reason most end game tanks are vamps. Health recovery has got to be the most useless stat in the game.

Stage 4 in Cyro, for the sneak speed bonus.

Generally stage 4 almost always, simply because I do not feed.

You deal with the fire damage initially by having a single jewelry piece with fire resist. You deal with the fire damage ultimately by being aware of your surroundings, moving out of the way, and sinking points into Elemental Defender (which you would be doing vamp or not).

Undeath is worth staying Stage 3 or above.

The only real downside is health regen on what's probably a low number in the first place.

I still contend that HR is never going to be the difference between living and dying. If you're counting on a tick in 2 seconds to save you, you're likely already dead.

So, unless you're using proc sets that give you crazy HR (troll king, beekeeper, a handful of others), there is little downside.

You can mystform through heavy hits and CC. You simply have to watch out for dawnbreaker.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

    I can see it now,

"Our numbers indicate that there are more vampires than werewolves, so we doubled the amount of wrinkley veins and incoming flame damage."

*Edit* But really my tank is a vampire, the resistance stacks enough that the flame damage isn't all that significant.

I usually always keep it at stage 4, the fast running while hidden is very nice, but however that said, dying by fire is not something I appreciate and the 75% reduced healing,,,,,,,,s...u.....c.....k......s......BIG----TYME----Ok.

I got wise to this, and feel if just getting a fast running while hidden bonus is all we get at stage 4, I will be happy to go to stage 1 immediately to be better buffed with no fire damage, place 100 cp into elemental defender (which is what I'm doing right now as I type) and healing ability is best especially since my weapons heal me for (x) amount of damage I do so I can sustain a lot better with a stam blade. With a Breton Stam blade with only 10 skill points placed into health, all the rest into stamina.

Yeah and btw, I only popped into this thread because I was looking for this:

Stage 4 always, I really love all my 4th stage Vampire's. It’s just those eyes, so very mesmerizing. The scars and veins so very uplifting and in awe. They have a special gift, just unsure what. But no need to hide or be in fear. 4th stage Vampire's are totally awesome. Embrace the 4the stage Vampire looks.

99% of the time I am at stage 4. The pros far outweigh the cons. Seriously, the fire damage is laughable. All of my magic toons are vamp, and a few of my stamina toons are as well. I can count the number of times I have died in this game where it really was due to being vamp on one hand.

If the content is unusually fire heavy in PVE (VAS+2 is they only one where its borderline required), I will drop to stage 2. There is never a reason to go to stage 1, because you lose the regen bonus. Might as well cure yourself at that point.

In PVP, I never go below 4 because I want the sneak speed. Elusive mist is also arguably one of the most powerful skills in PVP. It's so good that I run it on stam toons sometimes so I am not tied to a 2Hander for snare removal.
