ESO Plus Furnishing Question

So I have ESO Plus and I noticed that when you buy a house and you have ESO Plus you get bonus furnishing slots in the house to put stuff. What happens to those placed furnishing items if ESO Plus runs out and you lose those extra furnishing slots?

They remain but you cannot add any more. If you remove an item, you cannot replace it until under lower limit.

They will stay there.... but if you remove any you will not be able to put it back cause you are overlimit.

ok so kind of like the craft bag. You can still have it, but if you pull something out of it you can't put it back. Gotcha. Thanks!

The items remain in place, but there's a caveat: this means you can't move anything, either.

If you select an item, you will no longer be allowed to place it. You can only store it.

If your ESO+ expires and you're over limit, it's recommended you stay out of the housing editor unless you intend to put stuff away.

And that's why I don't use my ESO+ extra furniture slots in the occasional month I subscribe. I don't want my houses being in a forced frozen state in between. I like to remain able to occasionally swap something out or move stuff, keep the house "alive". Meaning I only buy houses workable with the lower non-ESO+ item count (so no huge mansions/store exclusives)
