I don't think this is possible because you are loading a whole new map and ui

It is possible, chat function is handled by its own server(s) - allowing this function to remain accessible while loading world assets behind a load screen would be no big thing at all from a developer standpoint.

I close the box when I'm playing, why would I want more options for it to be open?

I wish it was easier to access in general. If I want to see it I shouldn't have to bring up my Character or Inventory screen just be able to interact with the Window, or I guess hit enter to bring up the chat box. That's the one part of the UI I don't like. It's less cluttered, but always having the mouse pointer active to where you can just mouse over the chat or other windows and they go live is so much nicer from other games.

Being able to chat while the intercontinental pegasus flies through the "loading wormhole" was one of the things I really liked about Tera.

You can always hide the window, so having that option would be nice.

The original EverQuest was like this. If you disabled a particular game setting (fancy loading screens or something like that), you'd get a simple black background with your UI elements displaying, and a working chat window that still worked during loading screens. Of course, the only 'channels' that worked and were usable were guild and party chat, and whispers.

I don't have long loading screens (sorry to the people suffering this, mine are usually about 30 seconds :( ), but I voted yes anyway. No real reason to vote no just because this isn't something I experience.

I doubt that it's functionally possible, but in the abstract, sure, why not.

....really, I would rather that loadscreens aren't so long I feel the need to type during them.

Don't think we are ever getting rid of loading screens so making them more bearable is never a bad idea.

And the tech is definitely there. From personal experience, there was a lot wrong with Destiny 2. But having access to the inventory screen during loading was a very nice feature. Might as well do some inventory management or chat with someone while you are loading.

no, because tech isn't there. Never seen mmo have chat box visible during a loading screen.

I would like option to turn off fading, and set up chat tabs, so i can hide zone chat if i wish.

So you don't want it because you've never seen it implemented in another game; sound logic.

I said the tech isn't there, as in i rather not see resources and time wasted on something not needed. And spends those resources and time on making fixes.

I just came from ff14, and seen what wasted time/resources looks like. Lots of dead on arrival content no one wanted.

Text chatting should be removed from the game completely.

no, text chatting is a staple for mmo. Not everyone likes to, or can use voice chatting. People who are deaf/mute do play mmo.

Yes, so I can tell my (text based) group members that I am, yet again, in a big long loading screen.

Yes. It would also be nice to just sit in guild chat while the zone loads. I don't think it's doable though with their current engine.

    *****If on PS4

You can press the Touch Pad+Start button to open your text chat box without going into your menus. This won’t work during load screens but it works basically anywhere else :)

It would be nice but I think it would just increase load screen times. And no one wants that.

Edit: Isn't Discord for you chatty types that can't get enough of gabbing?

I'd like to know why you think this would increase load times lol.

Your chat is 100% still active during loadscreens already, it just isn't displayed. I thought this was obvious...

I actually wish that we could have the option to keep chat on screen all the time and to filter the chats...so that I can only see certain guild chats and whispers...this is on XB btw...

If you are on console, things may be different, bit on PC you can most certainly create multiple chat tabs and choose what you want to see in them.i have a number of tabs set up depending on how sociable i'm feeling.

This should be the case for guild, group and private chat. Zone chat would be more difficult, as your chat would switch the moment your client enters the new zone.

Yeah but I assume your zone channel would change instantly - they could just add a new yellow-text notification that says "Zone channel changed to Reaper's March" or whatever.

The loading screens take long enough, having chat enabled would extend it surely?

    This ^^

Lol dudes your chat is already active during loadscreens, just not visible. Again, I thought this was obvious.

I've had a change of heart with text chatting.

    Change my vote to "Yes".

While we're at it, please offer an option to darken the background. That white text with quasi-transaparent background is not working.

Do you guys not have the option to change transparency and chat colour on console? :-(

I would prefer an option to permanently disable it. I leave it turned off but occasionally I will accidentally restart it and have to go in and shut it off again. NEVER having to see it again would be awesome.

This! So much this. On PC you can hide it, but the damned thing always finds an excuse to re-open. Grrrr!

OK, but why not voice chat? I know that ppl use teamspeak and discord (ironic name for such software) but in this day and age on the PC. voicechat should be integral, and then we'd have much less spamming of guild advertisments, etc.

So we'd have yelling of guild advertisements instead?

Yeah if anything is even remotely challenging from a programming perspective, you really cant expect ZOS to do it. They are a company of marketers, not programmers.
