Tale of my cousins luck with RNG (may be a rant)

Let me tell you.......his luck is the kind of luck that will make you want to slap yourself in the face and quit gaming in general. My cousin is 24. He goes to school part time, doesn't have a job and get's to sit at home all day and game. This may be me ranting, but It really gets under my skin. His parents are fine with him staying at home, not working and just gaming all day. When ever my friend and I get online with him to play, he always has new crown store items (the really good ones that everyone wants) Each time, he has something new. His parents let him spend on crown crates all the time. It get's frustrating (i know it shouldn't bother me, but it does) each time we get on, he's usually 5-10 champion points higher than before. He literally has almost all day, every day (with the exception of going into class for a few hours, then gets online again)

He literally has all the time in the world to play, and buys crown crates whenever he likes, and always gets the rare items. He always gets extremely defensive (gets very hostile as well, verbally) yelling and swearing at us that we don't see the tons and tons of crap items he goes through, just to get the good items. But that's just makes it worse. He gets to spend on crates and get so many items, it's ridiculous.

I have a job that is full time, I have a car payment, rent, bills that take priority, animals and the usual adult responsibilities. It really must be nice to have all the time in the world to game and spend on crown crates. I'm not saying that's what I want to do with my life, I'd go nuts If I games that much. But it must be nice to not have the usual adult responsibilities in life to allow you to have the free time to do what you want (in his case, play games) and spend what you want.

What get's under my skin (as well as our friends) is just how defensive and hostile he gets when ever any of us mention his luck with RNG. He gets the rare mounts from crown crates as much as I get mimic stones from them. I know I shouldn't be this frustrated over it, because I know it's just a game, but good lord. I'd like to have a run of good luck with RNG at least once.

I'll end my rant here. May have gotten a little carried away. Sorry.

    Envy is a dangerous thing.

In my opinion, one of current struggles in society is comparing oneself to everyone through social media. It is easy to think the grass is greener on the other side.

I would try to appreciate what you have instead of hating on your friend for what they have.

Oh believe me, I do appreciate what I have, I am thankful for everything, every day. Posting this kind of helped me get that frustration out. I know very well, that this is absolutely no reason to be frustrated, because as I said, it's just a video game, but shockingly, I am anyway, and I know it's not right.

Glad to hear! Just, you did judge and put down your cousin in your post. Not sure if it was a means to justify your feelings or what but made me feel the whole “build myself up by tearing them down” vibe.
Glad you are seeing how silly the situation can be.

Reading that makes me kind of feel bad for your friend. You don't portray him in a particularly flattering light, doesn't seem like a life style I'd be particularly envious of. Based on what you described, I'm not sure I'd be interested in maintaining a friendship with that particular person.

Sure it would be nice to have more disposable income, but before you envy someone, take the whole picture in view. It is a package deal.

You have a job, your own income, animals, a house. You can take care of yourself, but can't spurge on crown crates if you want to keep it all afloat.

Your cousin as you bring it leeches off his parents, is dependent, has not much of a life outside of gaming and a part time study. But he has nice in game pixels.

I know who's life I would prefer to have... one hint... it is not the one of the cousin.

You have a point. I do however come from a very large family so it's quite easy for me to not maintain a relationship with all of my cousins.

It's not so much that I am not portraying in a flattering light, it's just that's how he is.

Believe me, I understand this completely. I'm not saying I want his life at all, this was more along the lines about his luck with RNG, then I got carried away ranting about his time with gaming.

I know the definition, thank you. I mean, it's a very strange thing to envy for. And besides, if this guy so damn lucky, let him try his luck somewhere else, in casino for instance. I doubt, that he will be able to win a lot. I bet, it's not about luck here, he just spend a lot of resourses and time on the game, that's why he get rare items. All as he said himself, if story tells truth, but OP for some reasons thinks it's luck to blame. So what all this envy is about, huh?

Yes, that would hurt, think of it as always doing random normal dungeons, then select random vet by mistake and get an DLC
And yes his parents are stupid, have him earn his own money for stuff like games.

Note has no issue with people with money spending a lot in the crown store.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It sounds to me like you are the one who is winning. This game might last 10 years tops but not likely, he might have more CP and better RNG but you will be ahead of him when the servers shut down.

In fact Id wager you're well ahead of him now in life skills. Gameplay time, in game posessions are meaningless outside of the virtual world.

There arent any CP or RNG in the real world. Hard work, dedication to building a quality life and a sense of humility will carry you till the day till the day the real life server shuts down on you.

Worry less about other people and focus on driving yourself to meet YOUR goals of success.

Just some advice from an Old gamer.

The definition of envy is not to want something that another person has, envy is not wanting the other person to have that thing so he can be as miserable as you, mind the difference, many seem to forget it, at least in psychology, Because if you really wanted something that another person has you would get up, and work towards it.

Id say, don't even bother worring about it, your cousin is slowly sinking into the swamp, nothing to "envy" from him

Yea, honestly, your cousin doesn't deserve this, and should be scolded by his parents, that's what he deserves and what he NEEDS, to get off his ass and get a damn job, and not be a waste of tax payers money.

I agree that people should worry more about being their best person and less about living up to others' "builds..."
But there absolutely is RNG in the real world... You play the hand you're dealt... Now, as to the matter of what directs the RNG, that's a discussion for a different forum...
The bottom line is: Get right with RNGeezus and you're solid...
