So, what I've been curious about is, how many people around here have played another TES game prior to ESO? If so, what TES game did you play prior to getting ESO? Skyrim, or one of the older games in the franchise? I've personally played five Elder Scrolls Games prior to playing ESO.

I started with Skyrim when it first came out on the xbox 360, then got oblivion on the same system a year or 2 later. Then I got Elder Scrolls Anthology for the PC and finally had access to all 5 on the same system. Once ESO came out, it was only natural that I'd get and play it.

I played Skyrim and Oblivion, but neither were anywhere close to completion. There were some aspects of them that I really enjoyed but I ultimately was unable to continue them because of the sluggish combat system.

Nah, not at all. I still play them even now.

Sometimes it's a nice break to play the older titles, especially if you're a fan of the lore.

I tried skyrim, but not really a fan of "single player" games. I usually end up doing something stupid and dying without a recent save and end up losing hours of progress.

Tried Morrowind, wasn't impressed don't know why because mechanically it wasn't that different from Oblivion. Tried Oblivion and my social life died for about 2 years. Tried Skyrim and abandoned it after a few months because I felt railroaded into joining all guilds and as a Nord warrior how could I justify joining the Mages Guild or the Bards guild. At least in Oblivion guild membership was optional, and had little effect on the outcome.

Technically I played Daggerfall first, but only briefly at a friends house. Morrowind was the first one I played properly, and I've also played Oblivion and Skyrim.

maybe? but i'm very glad to hear this. strong games don't really age, they just show their character as everything since has moved toward photorealism or different stylization. i just finally picked up Toejam & Earl a month or two ago on Xbox, as i didn't have a Genesis first time around.

i keep hearing more and more good things about Daggerfall's speechcraft system. until recently it seemed all the pre-Morrowind games were sorta discarded. so i gotta get me some Daggerfall (on Linux, hopefully).

I believe Daggerfall can be freely obtained from either Bethesda's own website, or the UESP, you need Dosbox to run it though IIRC.

I vaguely remember playing Arena, though I was working 80-100 hours a week back then so didn't have much time for computer gaming.

Daggerfall made a bigger impact on me and though I picked up Redguard, I didn't particularly care for it.

Morrowind was awesome, I played it pretty extensively.

Oblivion just took things to the next level, also played it extensively.

Skyrim was damn near the perfect single player RPG and the mod market really allowed it to match it's potential.

I love ESO, but the original veteran grind was just mind numbing, with very little payoff, so I quit playing about 6 months after release. I came back in November and am very happy where the game is at the moment, I wish it had the depth of Skyrim and the ability to shape your environment and really feel like you are part of the story, but doing that with thousands of folks is a pretty big ask.

I played them in the following order...I missed a few..I don't think I ever played Arena, Redguard, or the new card game, which is technically the newest ES game.

    1. Daggerfall. <--- made me fall in love with the franchise...
    2. Battlespire. <--- this was meh....
    3. Morrowind. <---yay racist murdery elves.
    4. Oblivion. <---forgettable, only slightly less dull than Battlespire.
    5. Skyrim. <---yay, racist murdery nords and altmer.
    6. ESO. <---I am currently setting for this as my occasional ES fix.

For me it all began with the Morrowind; I guess for many this is where it began, even if there were previous installments. Morrowind was just so golden.. I can almost feel tears in me eyes thinking about that time when I landed In Seyda Neen for the first time. ah those were the times.

Skyrim. I tried playing Oblivion but it's just too old for me to handle, just the in-game map was not user friendly at all. But a fan team are remaking the entirety of Oblivion (and Morrowind) using Skyrim's Engine, so that may be in my future.
