Crown crates - Do I lose them if I don't open them?

My question is essentially this: i've gotten a crown crate from an event, and I would like to save it for when the new crown crates hit live. If I don;t use the one that I have now and wait, do I lose it when the new themed ones hit live?

You won't lose it, but it stays whatever theme it is. Level-up rewards are always Flame crates, regardless of the fact that we are currently on Scalecaller. When Psijic hits, any free crates you received will stay whatever theme they were when you got them.

Nope. I still have every free crate that they have ever given me. 85 89 Crown Crates, if my math is right.

Edit: My math was wrong. I forgot to add in 4 EU Crown Crates.

They contain everything that I ever wanted from a Crown Crate. At least, until they are opened, then they are ruined forever.

If they start out being flame crates, they'll stay flame crates even if you keep them for a year unopened. If they start out being scalecaller crates, they'll still be scalecaller crates even if you wait to open them when the psijic crates come out. They don't change.
They shouldn't disappear just because a new crate theme comes out. If they do, then ZOS has some explaining to do.

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack by saying this. But I do like the gambling aspect of opening crown crates even though though there is no such thing as true RNG. I typically buy a couple hundred crates every season.

This includes PC and PS4 platforms, EU and NA, on more than one account. This is not the maximum possible, given the combinations, but only what I happened to collect while playing during the various events.

Edit: I am fairly sure that no one can say they have more unopened free Crown Crates.

Whatever ZOS uses for a random number generator hates me with a passion. As I said above, my Crown Crates are filled with wonderful treasures. If I open them, they won't have those treasures. Instead, they will be filled with disappointment. They are worth more unopened than they are opened.

Naaaaaah, you're supposed to enjoy it, that's how they're allegedly designed. As long as you're not chasing one or two specific things that always elude you, there's no frustration loop to make you hate them. It's harmless fun, with the right resources and attitude.

That's not how RNG works. There are more chances to get nice things, but just by having 84 means nothing.

Each time you open a crate, you have the same odds. Each crate's RNG is completely independent from any that came before or after it.

When you account for the fact those 84 crates are also split between accounts and platforms, you'll cut down even further on the gems received from duplicates.

And then there are likely 3 different seasons in the bunch meaning that even if there are a large number of gems received, only items in the current season can be bought for gems so anything from the Dwarven or Flame crates are unobtainable regardless of gem amount.
