lol and then you reported my comment which was perfectly NICE other than pointing out the FACT that you make too many BAIT/pointless posts. Nice meme.

So there, it's already functioning exactly how you want- you can say whatever you please and just moan if anyone dares disagree or even point out NICELY (and y'all should have seen, my post was completely nice/kind/honest - no bait!) why people give you flak. You earn it.

It would also be nice if the mods would actually read reported comments and then decide - but I don't think they do.

From here on, both of ya are blocked. Sure I'll still have to ignore any posts/replies with your icons to them just to avoid any more of your trolling/baiting - but so worth it.

I'm reporting all your actual bait in a moment. Fair is fair is it not?

Further to that - I think I'll just start using Reddit. Easier to search, cleaner forums and just generally better.

I have no desire to see moderators having to study every thread in sufficient detail to enable them to judge when a comment is ad hominem, and I'm sure they have no such desire either.

I suggested in another topic recently that one way to minimise a lot of the problems on the forums would be to allow unlimited replies to topics, but restrict the creation of topics to one per week and the creation of polls to one per month.

I also think that a lot of comments are intended to bait, and while at present there is often effective action against those who rise to the bait there doesn't seem to be equivalent action being taken against those who lay the bait. That's something I would like to see changed.

It whos opinion is it contributing? That's the issue. And we already have feedback options in Agree, Awesome etc.

We also already have moderators. And in my opinion they remove off topic chat if the thread is legitimate. The only threads that get canned are the ones never going anywhere.

More focus should be on legitimate genuine threads being started rather than pushing blame of any thread collapse on genuine contribution to a less than genuine topic...

I feel like I would benefit from this demerit system because a lot of people attack me and hurt my feelings.
What is the thought process that goes into making your threads? Are you just bored at work like the rest of us?

I'm not trying to spark an argument, I'm genuinely curious.

Sometimes I can't tell if you are the greatest troll to roam these forums, if you just like to bring up controversial topics to watch people react, or if your posts are genuine and you're trying to spark constructive conversations.

They could make it where we could down-vote comments on threads, that may help a little.

I would oppose that because I believe it will lead to people downvoting posts just because they don't agree, or they may have a personal grudge against the poster. This is something reddit suffers heavily from, and it can't be solved. With downvotes comes massive abusive usage for a ton of other reasons than what was intended.

Yes, I'd be afraid of that as well. We used to have a LOL reaction button (in addition to agree, insightful, and awesome), but that was removed because people were using it like a downvote button and as a way to ridicule others.

No, there has only ever been 3 reaction buttons, I'm sure the LOL button was changed to the insightful button but it's that long ago.

EDIT: Well it seems that there was 4 buttons at one point and even a "disagree" button, well I'm confused now.
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/149837/the-lol-button/p1
They got rid of disagree because they felt people were trolling with it. Then people used lol instead to show their disbelief/disdain for certain posts, so they scrapped that.

Now people use insightful for that; unless the post is actually insightful- like an answer to a question/issue/mechanic.

You're really not actually meant to disagree here or be displeased with anything anyone says.

You have to just ignore trash posts/comments and say nothing at all.

im probly the only one that wishes zos controlled what areas certain things could be posted in more fluidly itd keep alot of confusion out of the water. as well as kindve watch posts a bit more diligently as 99% of posts do fall off topic due to a disagreement.

I think the answer to that is probably in the number of comments that get reported. I hope in general (no particular circumstances being referred to here) that part of the moderators' consideration of reports is an assessment of how many reports the poster has submitted. That should tell them something.

One thing I've noticed, especially more recently, is that the threads most likely to disintegrate and end up being locked tend to be those in which the original poster doesn't so much put forward a controversial or provocative view and then leave others to debate them, but actually responds to every single comment especially from anyone who holds a different view to their own. It's a form of baiting and invariably ends badly. You can't ban people from commenting on their own topics, but you can consider it as part of the decision over whether people are wrong to rise to the bait or wrong to lay the bait in the first place.
