Which sets should I use with my Templar Tank ?

Hi everyone,

I've just reached CP 160 with my Templar Tank and I don't really know which sets should I be farming, could you give some advice on the matter ? I looked a bit online and I saw that Ebon Armor is somewhat of a favorite but I really don't know what to do for the monster set and second set. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ebon armor and Torag's pact is the easiest, meta set up.... Templar tanks often use Swarm Mother monster set because they don't have chains.

Torag's pact increases the power of your crushing and weakening weapon enchantments.

I run a off meta set up for a magplar tank (they were supposed to be a tank healer until morrowind killed it). With Dragongaurd, Spectre's Eye and Shadowrend. I have lots of shields and incidental heals. But without the ability to CC I struggle with pug/dungeon finder groups.... just dying to adds.

Ebon or Plague Doctor for half your gear. PD is easier to get. Thing about Ebon is this, unless your running 12 person trials, it is only nice to have for 4 person groups, not at all necessary or required. Plague, or even Werewolf would do you better for 4 Person Dungeons. If you have not tanked Vet Dungeons, then learn those before you tank trials.

Then Hist Bark or Torugs or Allesia's Bulwark or even Storm Knight could be your second set of gear. Heck anything that increases Resistance and or Ultimate Generation is what your looking for. Resistance more for selfish tanks, ultimate generation for support tanks using Magma Shield or Aggressive Warhorn or Standard (not the shifting one, the other one that buffs group damage) or something like that.

Then for Monster Sets, already listed above.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Thanks for the help guys, I've started farming Ebon but the jewellery is hard to get and I'm still deciding for the second one, I was also considering Brands Of Imperium, the shield would be pretty useful in Dungeons or Trials for those hard hitters but I don't know if the 10% chance is enough

Ebon Armory and Torug Pact are meta.
You need Infused Torug weapon with Crusher enchant.
When you are ready, farm Alkosh jewelry and 1h+shield.

    Head/shoulder Lord Warden or Bloodspawn.

Honestly it depends on what kind of tank you are and for what content. If you are a trials tank Ebon/Toruges pact is good and alkosh can work too if you are a stamina tank. If you are a dungeon tank i would suggest you look at the templar skills and figure out what utility they miss out on. For example templars have a strong class armor buff and strong class healing abilities and magicka regen. What they do miss is crowd control and utility like minor maim. I would suggest Shadowrend for regular dungeons and Thorvokun for more stationary fights like the vAA axes. With the addition of the psijic skill lines templar tanks will get access to the aoe slow/stun stop time. They will also get the new Fighters guild silver leash ability to pull mobs in. Another ability that may be useful to a templar tank is some way of getting evasion and ultimate generation. Maybe this could be done by wearing tavas and histbark.

I use warrior-poet instead of plague doctor; it is cheap to buy and works out much the same, except you get physical resistance not increased healing.
When doing vet or harder normal dungeons, I combine it with torags pact. For easier dungeons I combine it with Julianos for additional damage to mobs.

Warrior-Poet is a pretty useless set since the Minor Toughness bonus is also given by Warhorn and those don't stack. If you have both the tank and the healer running Warhorn you can have 100% uptime on that buff in fights since the bonus lasts for 30s, and with ~50s warhorn load time, you will have plenty of overlap. Plague Doctor is good while you are learning content since it gives you the option of not blocking as often, but other than that, it's not a really good option since it gives no buffs to the group. Ebon is only slightly less health, but you give the others ~1.5K which will be good since so many people run recovery drinks instead of blue food with all those sustain nerfs.

For 4-man veteran dungeons i went for a different approach, Paladin style a strong hybrid between tank, dd and healing (through repentance and vigor). Sword and board with 2handler as main bar. I use plague doctor, hundings rage with 3 weapon damage enchants and one piece monster set mostly pirate for resistances. (Next patch you can equip 2 piece monster sets with this setup.) You could wear ravager instead of hundings, i just dont have it and too lazy to buy and upgrade. All gear is sturdy so you can panic block with 2hander too. With blazing sheild and brawler you are having nice 10 to 20k sheild stack depending on the mobs around. Self buffed 4.5k weapon damage along with 30k health, 30k stamina 28k resistances. Stamina regen is 1k but no problem due to the repentance is great in pve.
Some harder boss fights require gear swapping but 95% of all dungeon fights can be done with this build without needing a dedicated healer in group. Having low cp might affect your performance though.

Skills are for 2h bar: Brawler-BitingJabs-ReverseSlice-BlazingShield-Rally- Ulti: Dawnbreaker of Smiting
For sheild bar: PierceArmor-Caltrops(or rune)-Vigor-Repentance-ExtendedRitual(or rune)- Ulti: Rememberance

Pretty selfish tank in terms of buffs but if you consider the amount of damage and healing it provides for group, it is not so selfish tank. And hella fun to play. Wish it could work in pvp too :/

If you'll be in a static group, templar is a great tank-healer.

I'm using Ebon (all body), Earthgore, and SPC jewels plus 1-hand/shield and resto/destro as required.

Summerset will be great as she'll be 5-piece SPC front and back bar.

On the pts i am running ebon and the new SPC, Vestments of Orlome. The new set is really quite synergistic with templars. (I am still double S&B).

"My" meta setup for my soloist hybrid-dd Stamplar-base tank that I been messing with is with ShackleBreaker and Bahraha. I like it. Resources stats are up there all around, plus, still brutal in throwing out damage and you get that movement reduction and extra DoTs from the Bah set. Can still work for group tanking, but will have to tweak the attributes and CP a bit to be less of a dd and more of a blocker. I have the Grothdarr 2-piece for extra DoTs as well. Love this build :D

I would think in that case SPC would still be better, the voo is only so big and what skills are you using as a heal tank that would proc it? Shards is the only one that would reach range DPS.

First is less then a month you won't need swarm mother's. Still useful but not a must have.

Some questions to ask Magicka or stamina tank? Have you considered frost tanking or do prefer usual sword and board?

I use Spectre’s eye, brands of imperium, and lord warden on mine. Works fine, but I’m sure you could use other sets to greater effect on a dedicated tank build. This is just for when I feel like tanking on my healer, and I’m too lazy/cheap to swap out mundus, attributes, cp, etc.
