sometimes those old issues are still relivant, and there are threads that were started greater than 1 year ago that are still being used today that are still working and accepted.

I fail to understand: If necroing is against forum rules and gets it closed, why didnt it close automatically 2, 6, 12 whatever month after the last comment?

Isn't it funny sometimes, how a question is posed -right- after someone answered it? Makes for a "ooo, a psychic!" feeling... ;)

sometimes those old issues are still relivant, and there are threads that were started greater than 1 year ago that are still being used today that are still working and accepted.

Also, "necroing" a discussion is not exactly against the forum rules, as long as the matter discussed is still relevant to ESO today, right? Bumping threads however, is.
I suspect the relevant part in the forum rules you refer to here would be:
Thread Bumping: Please refrain from replying to discussion threads for the sole purpose of “bumping” them. This is considered to be a form of spam because it does not add to the discussion in a constructive or meaningful way. We understand that everyone would like to keep their discussion active and visible, but we encourage you to strive for meaningful and constructive posts instead of posts that consist of nothing more than “Bump!”
So, if you find an old discussion that is still relevant, there is a wrong and a right way to contribute.
The wrong way being adding a meaningless "I agree" or "mudcrabs!" comment, the right way being -adding- to the discussion in some constructive and meaningful way by posting with some relevant points that you thought up which have not yet been covered in that discussion... at least that is how I read their rules on the matter.

The problem with necros that, tend to get locked, is they're relying on information that's no longer up to date.

Someone'll see a thread on something, without noticing it's from 2014, and then notice that some people who really should know better are talking about utterly bonkers things, or misunderstanding basic mechanics. So, they wade in to "well actually..." and stupidity ensues all around.

I mean, it's not always an issue, but I've seen more than one thread where the original necro, of the first few posts after that, went off on someone over how the game worked three years ago.

it's to do with the way search works, you type in what you are looking for and half the threads on the first page of results are from 2016, the other half from 2014.

That thing needs to sort in date order. It's borderline useless in trying to locate what you're looking for, you're better off using Google and limiting the searches to this site.

    PS sorry for the necro...

I disagree. Nothing wrong with necroing threads, in fact it's helpful because it shows how long certain issues have been ongoing.

Will bookmark this thread so I can necro next year.
Necro is stupid if some bring up old problems who was fixed years ago.
its ok if an existing problem.

Necro treads about necromancy is awesome :)
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

The simple and easy means to stop the necro of threads is 30 days after the last comment the thread is closed automatically.

It would be a great mechanic that would save the forum moderators some time. Yes, I have seen this in a different gaming forum. It works.

We recently removed some commentary due to thread bumping. Because this thread is a bit old, we have decided to close it down. Thank you for your understanding.
