Advice needed: mag tanking dps build

Hi ya - coming back to ESO after a while. Looking to make a tanky dps mag pvp build -- preferably one I can also easily PvE in as a tank or dps. I'm open to any class except DK. Magden has peaked my interest from some videos, but I read they are getting a bit of a nerf stick, so may not be very viable next patch.

Open to ideas! Thanks!

Mag warden is a fine choice. Yes they are getting nerfed next patch but most are being overly sensational, in truth the nerfs are not that severe for the exception of losing your only class based (and highly telegraphed) CC.

So tbh i think tanks in pvp arent as useful as they are in pve...I am not trying to start any flame war but in pvp smart players just go around the tank and hit the dps players in pve the npcs just agro on you, so limited usefulness imho

that said heavy armor, +2500 crit resist and physical and spell resist buffs will make you tanky w/o focusing your build (skills, attributes) on doing so

can we call shieldstacking tanky? if yes, then a magsorc would be a good option. you can still wear light armor and dish out serious damage, while hardened ward and the light armor skill gives you a big shield, especially in PvE.
for tanking in PvE not much is needed to be able to do mos of the content. most vet dungeons can be soloed by petsorcs, so any light armor build with some damage shields should be able to tank them. i think most efficiently still would be the dragonknight, because you can do nice damage with a light armor sword and shield build, while being tanky through blocking. permablocking light armor dks were at some point considered the strongest duelling class. but you dont want a dk....

I'll preface this by saying that all of my PvP is done in Battlegrounds. Cyrodiil is mostly boring to me, and I haven't set foot in there (except for checking the special vendor) in quite some time. Therefore, some of what I'm saying may not perfectly translate over to Cyrodiil, especially if you play in a CP-enabled campaign.

Magicka Warden was mediocre in PvP when Morrowind first came out, and it's much worse now. Offensively, the class is too reliant on Deep Fissure in order to get kills, which good players will frequently be able to avoid. I've been using Destructive Clench in order to land the shalks more reliably, and started doing so long before ZOS announced the removal of the stun.

However, the stun from Flame/Shock Clench can be dodged, blocked, or reflected, and if you run Frost for the root (which can still be dodged or reflected), you'll need to either play without any stun whatsoever, or give up another bar slot in order to fit something like Vampire Drain. 'Course, being a Vampire comes with its own set of drawbacks, which are going to get worse with the upcoming increased light attack damage on flame staves. It's also worth mentioning that Flame Clench can sometimes push your target in odd, unexpected directions, and actually knock them out of the path of your shalks, helping them to survive.

When it comes to defense, the Warden class absorb is quite overpowered vs projectile-using Magicka setups, but worthless vs most Stam players. The vast majority of the time I'm in Battlegrounds, on any class I play, Stamina is what's truly dangerous. For this reason, I honestly don't even run the class absorb most of the time. Outside of that absorb though, Magicka Warden defenses are essentially the worst in the game.

Broadly speaking, there are 2 ways to stay alive in Battlegrounds: tanking damage, and avoiding damage. The second way really isn't an option for Magicka Wardens, unless you can use Nature's Embrace to pull yourself to a properly positioned teammate (and good luck with that when you're playing solo, or even sometimes in groups, depending on terrain, classes you're with, classes you're against, etc...)

But what about the first option - tanking the damage? Unfortunately, that's also not much of a solution for Magicka Wardens. I've yet to see a Magicka Warden setup that can both block a lot (which is absolutely necessary for tanking damage in no-CP PvP), and still have any killing power worth mentioning.

I use a light armour magblade.

Refreshing path is a good PVP/Damage/Tank skill as it a) does damage b) heals you c) grants major expedition d) gives major resolve/ward (passive).

LA shield for when it gets tough. Mirage for 15% dodge & minor resolve/ward, Cripple CC's, Cloak's getting reworked for a 33% heal/other morph makes you invisible for 2/3 seconds. Shades can teleport you out of combat if you get over run. Merciless gives you an 8% damage boost, inbuilt gap closer & stun with teleport strike, incap is broken af on a class with arguably the highest ulti gen... the list goes on.

Of course you could just shield stack on a sorc... but where's the fun in that ;)
@Sparr0w so I get the notification

Maybe magblade is an option for me. They seem to be able to build out decent sustain/escape w/ cloak and do fairly good single target dmg. I could then swap things around a bit for a sap tank build in pve.

    Thoughts?

Coming from a Warden PVE Tank, who went PVP for fun:

I enjoy tanking and love the SnB aesthetics a hell lot, and am also inspired by those MagDKs running double SnB/ SnB+Staff and how they make it work. So I collected/crafted some proc sets and built around them for non-CP Battlegrounds and I can tell you its hilarious - DMG is good but unreliable (although sometimes in a 1v1 scenario when RNGeeesus smiles upon you can nearly one-shot the more inexperienced/unaware people) you can have constant pressure with procs flying around you, surviveability is incredible with class abilities and the heavy armor. Ult Generation is absurd, you can throw trees at every which-a-way.

    I use:
    Valkyn Skoria
Thunderbugs/Innate Axiom (chest, gloves, belt, legs, boots - all heavy)
Red Mountain Jewelry and SnB - Front Bar
    Frost Staff - Back Bar
*thunderbugs has all health enchants and innate axiom has all magicka - makes me change playstyles from tanky to squishier with more burst options.

    Bars:
    SNB
    Heroic Slash/Screaming Cliff Racer
    Grippin Shards
    Deep Fissure
    Shimmering Shield
Betty Netch/Bull netch ( depends on my mood, if I wanna go Innate Axiom and try to focus on dealing damage ill go Betty, for the other option I go Bull netch as you can block more on your SnB bar)
    Ult: Northern Storm/Barrier/Soul Assault

    Frost Staff
    Arctic Blast/Growing swarm
    Leeching vines
    Lotus Blossom
    Blockade of Frost
    Ice Fortress
    Enchanted Forest

This isn't a cookie-cutter FotM build and completely satisfies my playstyle.
