OK I am not the greatest tank of all time. But I am trying the Undaunted quests, and I have to try to win. I have a taunt that I just learned about. But 4 out of 5 dungeons I try, I get voted out. I tried going as just a damage type with no luck. No takers. I was wondering if anyone wants to try it out with me as a tank and no giving up till we win. My user @richie1961. Hit me up

Please don't take this the wrong way- but you're CP290 and you just discovered a taunt? I'm guessing you were a PVPer? It's okay, though, we'll catch you up to speed.

#1. You need to have Sword and Shield equipped at all times. If you're this fresh to tanking- don't swap to your greatsword on your backbar during the fight. Trust me. You'll quickly forget about tanking and then focus on DPS. That's not good. Wait until you're more comfortable with tanking and then you can add DPS in between taunting.

#2. Make sure you're wearing heavy armor. Yes- tanking can be done in light or medium... but again- if you're this new to tanking- you'll want to focus on survivability.

#3. Keep your taunt constantly up and the boss's back to your group.

#4. Maybe try doing the Undaunted quests on normal mode before going into veteran mode. (especially DLC)

Let us know what gear you're wearing and we can provide some helpful feedback.

Heavy Armor Rubidite mostly looted in game. I have the Aylied's Wrath greatsword that you get from King L. The last of the Aylied's I didn't start with dungeons until recently. And so basically I'm a noob.

Absolutely. Yes. You want at least the taunt ability, Puncture (preferably the morph Pierce Armor), and the passives associated with Sword and Board.

Don't use your greatsword. You need to use a one-handed weapon and shield.

Yes. For simplicity's sake, that is the tanking skill line. Thus why you're getting kicked.

If you want to be a tank, yes, you should. The taunt is the first skill in the line.

You will know an enemy is taunted because they will have little red tendrils around their head. When that disappears, you need to retaunt (you will also notice them running away from you, but you should try to get them before they do that).

In the past week, I have encountered (a) a "tank" without a taunt, and (b) a "tank" that kited each boss all around the area and ignored all pleas to hold it in one place. Both got kicked. Actually, no tank was better than tank (b), and we just continued on more quickly with 3 players. If OP was being that bad, then he deserves getting kicked. If not, he was just facing difficult players and should move on.

Don't take this as a personal offense but your gear is crap. You can't go around with random looted gear because youìll have no bonus.
You need complete set with working bonus for tank.
Also, you absolutely NEED sword and shield at least on the main bar. Since you are unexperienced, i suggest you sword and shield on the backbar too. So:
    - Get some sets. I suggest Torug's Pact has the first one. It's craftable. Then, try to farm or Ebon armor from normal crypt of hearts.
    - Use sword and shield and TAKE PUNCTURE. Morph it to pierce armor when it's ready. That's your taunt, it's the tank main skill.
    - Slot other good tanking DK abilities like Fiery Grip, Dark Talons and Obsidian Shield
    - Use glyphs to enchant your weapon. Use sturdy traits on your armor. Don't forget the food also! Try to reach at least 30k health, 18k magicka and 20k stam
    - Put a Crusher glyph on your weapon, it works wonderfully with the Torug set
    - Do some practice, learn the mechanics, learn which attacks you should block and so on.
    - When you are better, go to veteran Crypt of Hearts for purple Ebon armor and gather Undaunted keys for monster sets.

He's all set, guys. I made him a full set of Shacklebreaker and a SnB for his front bar. I made sure he had a 2H for his back bar (just in case he gets bored in between dungeons). He now knows the basics of taunting and has chains, talons, pierce armor, spiked armor, and dragon blood slotted. He should be good to go for the basics of tanking 101.

    Cheers.

Two big questions that may explain things:

    1. Are you actually the designated tank for the group? You can queue as multiple roles and have to pay attention to which role you are actually given.

    2. Are you taunting the boss and keeping it taunted (have to keep reapplying taunt, and this also means not dying)?

i'm glad this worked out. first page or two it looked like this thread was going nowhere. this community is awesome; you tracked the guy down and helped him out, and -- as someone who has a character who aspires to tank one day -- also offered many great tips for other beginners. y'all are great.

Run normal stuff until you are CP 160, nobody ever takes a tank under 160 seriously for vet content unless its a friend/guildie. Once 160 gear up with solid 7 heavy, shields, one weapon. Have at least 30k health to avoid possible questions to your noobness. Watch videos on how to run vet dungeons, plenty of them teach how to tank every single dungeon. (Watch the ones for that day's pledges). It's not fair but it's how it is, anyone here that tells you they didn't thought ohh *** when they saw a pug tank under 160 join vet mazatum is full of it.

Ijust did main quest line stuff, until recently and I'm currently 250 not 290. Typo. I just got hooked up with a fat set of armor and a sword and Shield. I'll be giving it another shot soon. Thanks to Savos_Saren for the help.

I always queued up as a tank. Lol I knew nothing about this lol. I think I still got a lot to learn. Start normal and then I will try the vet stuff..Thanks to everyone for your help and advice.

But I learned that Templar's just don't have the taunt tools others have.

There's 2 taunts in the game. One from Sword n Shield line (the very first one), the other from the Undaunted line. It doesn't matter what your class is.

    3

heavy attack with ice staff is a taunt if you put the point in the tree. Some classes are better suited for tanking due to the class skills being more for tanking such as defensive skills, and or self sustain skills.

tbh i prefer the heavy attack taunt as it can be done on range, and can map more skills for defense/self heal or a dos attack they can help heal/defend.

isn't there a 4th one? i recently was reading a set that said something like "and taunts the enemy to attack you for 15 seconds" as one of the bonuses, under seemingly specific circumstances like a procset. i have no recollection where this set dropped, but it wasn't crafted and i think it was 5-piece.

    edit:

    Tormentor Set
    LEVEL 50 CHAMPION 160

(2 items) Adds 1206 Max Health

(3 items) Adds 4% Healing Taken

(4 items) Adds 4% Healing Taken

(5 items) When you deal damage with a Charge ability, you gain 3642 Physical and Spell Resistance and taunt the enemy to attack you for 15 seconds.
