Getting kicked out of the group for tanking.

OK I am not the greatest tank of all time. But I am trying the Undaunted quests, and I have to try to win. I have a taunt that I just learned about. But 4 out of 5 dungeons I try, I get voted out. I tried going as just a damage type with no luck. No takers. I was wondering if anyone wants to try it out with me as a tank and no giving up till we win. My user @richie1961. Hit me up

Yep. It's hard to ' get gud' if you get kicked instead.

To play a tank you should play a healer/dd first to know mechanic of the dungeons. And that's only half of it. A dungeon in tank respective usually different to DD and healer. You need to know more mechanic, know the mob animations... But playing healer/dd first and watch what your tank are doing does help.

PS: also make sure you have enough stats. "Trying till we get it" only work if the reason the group wiping is about mechanic. It doesn't work if the problem is stats. Tank don't have enough stats to survive 1 hit, DD only pull half the number required for dps check for example. In that case, you're just banging your head in the wall.

What are you getting kicked out for?

    Dying too easily?
    Low health?
    Low CP?
    Not knowing the mechanics?
Not using crowd control on mobs?
Not holding aggro on the boss with a taunt?
Not holding the boss more or less in one place for DPS aoes?

Groups may not tell you why they are kicking you, but hopefully you can look at that list and see some areas to improve. (Can't do much about groups kicking for low CP, though, that's just a sad thing.)

My advice: Get your tank gear and skills on, especially your taunt (I recommend Pierce Armor from One Hand and Shield for the debuff). Then queue for specific dungeons starting with the easiest ones and working harder, paying attention to boss mechanics and mob pulls as you go.

You don't have to learn the mechanics as a DPS or healer first, I learned as a tank first myself. But you do have to pay attention and learn what tactics work for you. Easier dungeons are the most forgiving place to learn this.

Generally, no. But the OP can evaluate what's going on and make adjustments if needed.

A basic tank in a dungeon needs to be able to hold boss aggro and not die. A good tank holds aggro, doesn't die, crowd controls mobs, debuffs the boss, and buffs the group.

Assuming that the groups aren't simply taking one look at the OP and kicking due to low CP or low health or only using a 2-hander, then I have to assume there's something the OP needs to practice about tanking like not dying easily, holding aggro, and holding the boss more or less still.

So really its a question of whether groups are making a snap judgement of the OP (can't do much about that) or whether the OP is having problems with tanking (in which case practicing problem areas on the easy dungeons is a good training exercise because no one should be too worried about how well or how badly you tank Fungal Grotto 1, etc.)

Its not clear what the problem is from the post. Or even what platform/server the OP is on for that matter.

I don't think I've ever been kicked out of a dungeon finder group as tank, unless I DC'd mid-dungeon. Very few groups will kick a tank who is present and actually trying to tank, even if they're not very good (I wasn't at the start, still not great but I've come quite a ways), given how few tanks there are in finder sometimes.

If you're getting kicked out a lot, do the normal versions first. Learn the boss patterns, what to interrupt, what to move out of and what you need to grab. Once you get the hang of it, then you can move onto Veteran dungeons which are roughly the same with Hard mode mechanics thrown in the mix.

Nope, people who give feedback are usually the last ones that will vote kick you. Ive ran dungeons with some crappy tanks and not all of them were low skill level. In fact most were high CP and running as a tank just so they could get a dungeon faster. Those are the dungeons i hate. Rather run with a newb who is trying to learn to tank than someone that actually knows how to play pretending to be a tank for their selfish impatience.

You don't get kicked just because you picked a certain role, there has to be some kind of reason for them to do that, such as you being low level, or moving around too much etc. Maybe give us more context?

If you "just" learned a taunt then I take it you're still very low level. That is probably the reason you're being kicked.

What level are you? If you're level 15 or something, then yeah, I can see why you might get kicked. Or maybe you just need more practice using the taunt, or were dying too much.

What's he trying to tank on

He's not giving any information which... honestly, doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence. In another thread, he's talking about having difficulty dealing with Pelidil. He's 210, so I don't know. If he's getting rolled by quest bosses, he's probably getting smeared by trash pulls in vet (if he's running vet).

I think he's on a sorc tank... which, I mean, I run one, but I'm swinging ~50k health, and have years of experience with the class. Someone who's only just learned about taunting? It could be pretty messy in those runs.

EDIT: Turns out the Sorc is not his tank. Should have skimmed a little closer when I was checking his other threads.

If you think tanking is having a taunt, well that already explains a couple of things. But at least you are genuinely trying. You probably just need to find some experienced person that teaches you a couple of things and help with your build and sets.

    What sets are you running?

    What's your class?

    What's your race?

What're your stats? (Health, Stam, Magicka, also might as well throw both resistances in as well while you're at it.)

That’s a bit of a bs response. I, for one, ALWAYS offer constructive advice before a kick—or just leaving if the group is really bad. I’d rather eat the debuff than cause drama. A lot of ppl in AF just don’t want help, though, and are content being clueless. They queue expecting a carry.

    I sense... sarcasm.

Yeah, Warden Tanks are a blast. They're so much fun.

Ironically, the only class I don't like tanking on is Templars. They just don't have a good skillset to make the adds sit and stay on command. With my sorc, it's Restraining Prison, and I can always just drop a Storm Attro or Negate on anyone who's getting on my nerves. But, man, Bolt Escape is a game changer for offtanking in Trials, and in some dungeon situations.

If youa re being kicked so often... you are probably doing something very obviously very wrong.

Something like tanking with a bow...

That, or you don't look like you are actually trying to tank and they think you are a DD queueing as a fake tank.
