Does anyone else from time to time give away purple motifs and whatnot for free?

Or am I the only one? I mean obviously I cannot be the only one. I don't know whether or not this is smart to do or not and people could argue I am dumb for doing so. Alot of times I will put up some motifs and whatnot up for sale in the zone chat. Some of the ones I gt, that I do not particularly care for, or if I already know something, I'll just give it to whoever is interested, rather than selling it because i know some people (like me) don't always have nearly enough gold to buy an item. I honestly kind of enjoy giving some items away without expecting anything in return because the other players reaction is always cool.

also, this post is not complaining in any way about people selling things, just genuinely curious if other people do this too?

I have given away things before for sure. It all depends on how many I got, how much bag space I have left, and how nice the other person is.

Usually, I only give to guildmates, rarely to a random in Zone, but I have done it. What I am more inclined to do is trade a chapter, so they need legs, I trade for Helm or something I need, or something that is of similar value.

I toss them in the guild bank sure.
I actually don't even care about the motifs I got from the anniversary event. It seems to be just another grind and more more of just a hassle to go through my crafters and figure out who has what every day.

It really does! I'll sometimes go to a lower level person and offer to trade with them and if they accept, I'll give them a few thousand gold and some things I think may help them out. Always results in a pretty cool reaction.

    Yea it feels awesome too.

Found a cp 10 guy trying to get skyreach runs one day. I needed to morph a skill so I brought him along. Made I’m a training blue set at CP 50 then a purple for 160. Then ran him through about 6-7 times till he hit CP 100. I know he loved it.

That's really inspiring! I have a character I have re-done to be my crafter and I want to use it for exactly this reason.

It varies on each basis though, what the drive the person has for it is another thing. I'd much rather help someone inclined to help others than a person that would try to take my help and sell it. It is to each their own for what reasons they do or do not do it.

I give away high value items all the time. Usually to guildies and friends, sometimes to a stranger. For example, the other day I was farming in Vvardefell when I noticed in zone chat someone desperate for War Maiden swords. About every 10 minutes or so the same person would get in chat asking about the swords. I looked in my inventory and just happened to have a purple quality sharpened War Maiden sword and a green quality infused War Maiden sword. I linked them in a message to the player and said "Are one of these what you are looking for?" They messaged me back and kindly asked if I wanted to sell them because they desperately needed them for their build. I could have taken advantage of them since they were desperate, but I'm not that kind of person. I messaged them back and simply said "Check your mail." I gave them both swords free of charge. They insisted on paying me, but I told them to keep their gold and just pay it forward. I believe random acts of kindness make for a better community. Plus, it gives me the warm fuzzies inside. o:)

When i left Xbox I gave away millions and probably the same again in mats. Was funny doing it as i left xbox when vets were still the thing and when i returned to close down my xbox eso account before selling the console, i was just a lowly cp160 or 150 (can't remember). I went up to players initiating trade and there was this particular group I went up to and one of them told me to get to **** and stop pestering him. His mate accepted the trade, got a few million and lots of gold mats. The person who told me to **** off suddenly wanted to be my best buddy. So i gave him a potato.

Most other people ignored me or accepted and those who accepted were glad they did.

People in my guilds regularly give away furniture recipes, food/drink recipes and motifs. Sometimes it's because for them it's not worth selling but they know a newer/less experienced guild member would find it really useful, sometimes it's just because they want to be nice.

I've also known people to craft stuff for other players for free or at a massive discount (as in less than the cost of the materials) to help them out.

I think it's more common within guilds because you know the recipients. There's less risk that the "new player" you think you're helping out is actually someone who is just starting their 15th alt but has millions of gold and dozens of set pieces in the bank, and it helps the sense of community within the guild.

But I've definitely seen it happen outside of guilds too. When ZOS does free trial weekends there's often people waiting at the points where new characters start, or in the newbie towns, offering free items, people to level with, advice or simply a welcome party.

On the other side of the coin, people "like you" who give things away for free dont have any money because they give things away for free. I really dont understand how people are broke in this game. I make 50k a week easily accidentally just by playing on top of all the gold i make actually trying to make gold.

I dont give things away for free. It either goes on a trader, vendored, deconstructed or destroyed

Occasionally, I'll give away a duplicate one.

And then sometimes, without so much as a thank you, they ask me what other motifs I can spare.

I tend to put diagrams I don't need in to a guild bank that I am part of, so someone else might make use of it.

Any motifs that are duplicates first go to my girlfriend, so she can play Fashion Scrolls Online and make the prettiest Orc Warmaiden in Tamriel. But in the past, I have also put motifs in the guild bank. The past being "Before my girlfriend came to play with me" :p

I will give away free vampire bites.
Low level randoms have given me the motif they picked up in the dungeon as thanks for "being patient with them".
If I have already got it, I'll give it to someone else. I am not in a trade guild. I don't need to buy anything expensive. I will just rather grind it out. If I can get it for free, I'll get it for free. If I don't need it, ill give it away. Hell, gave away a VO Dagger sharpened back when that was a thing. Could have asked for 120K or so at the time, but I didn't bother. At that stage, I had no inclination to make a stam character.. looking back now though.. I'd still give it away.

Sometimes I do give stuff away for free, like for example: I gave away some dark brotherhood & assassins league chapters, because my character already knew them, I had no space left in my inventory, they weren't super pricey and because the other player was a very friendly person whom I met doing a Vvardenfell boss daily. (We duo'd the boss)

I feel like this community needs de-toxifying from time to time to keep this game as a happy and laidback place. There's some unwarranted "elites vs casuals"/"CP capped vs work-in-progress"-attitude going around. My weapon of choice is being friendly and helping others with gifts.
