Crown store gifting

will it be limited to plus players or players with the newer content only. Reason I ask is I just started back playing last few months and tonight I found another old account from 2015 I had. It has 1 level 7 character and 18000+ crowns. Will I be able to gift items to my current plus account from the old one when gifting goes live.

From my understanding any account will be allowed to gift items to others once they've either purchased a crown pack or a subscription at least once. I'm pretty sure this also includes previous subs. At worst you might have to wait 30 days for gifting to unlock or something like that.

    Here's the official article: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/26375

Gifting will have to be unlocked if you are a new player OR have never purchased crowns. It looks like your old account should be fine.

Gifting. Now there's a nice idea.

But I just read something rather disturbing. If a recipient does not claim the gift, we can't use it upon return?

I don't wish to be ungrateful, but this seems flawed and should be corrected.

Having to find someone else to give the items to just because the recipient didn't accept/time delay isn't what I'd call a solution.

I'm sure its to give incentive for people to actual gift it to people they know, as opposed to gifting to people they don't in exchange or gold or something.

I think the system is fine. If you send a gift to someone it means you know that person and knows if he/she is available and so.

And if, because of any reason, someone doesn't accept the gift you can just send it back to the same person, it's stated in the article details.

yeah well that works great with steam doesn't it.
People selling humble bundle games for irl cash on paypal.
All one would need to do is grab limited "unique" cosmetics in ESO, hoard them and sell them at a higher price later on.
Seems a good idea on pen and paper. Gifting friends items, but in reality it will add more corruption to the game.

And if they don't accept it again?

You're stuck with it until you can give it to someone.

Why would you send a gift 3 times to a person that is not accepting it? And why wouldn't you contact him/her after the first time rejected, even after the second time rejected, before sending a third time?

Well, doesn't this mean converting RL currency to ingame gold?

Most likely. But that isn't what's illegal. What's illegal is taking in game gold (or items) and converting it to RL currency. And, since it's not that, they don't give a flip.

It does seem like they intentionally designed the gifting system to punish the gifter if things don't work out. A more fair system in my eyes would be if the person doesn't accept the gift within the allotted time, the gift goes away and the gifter gets their crowns back.

I don't think that will be possible. The way the gifting system works on the PTS is exactly like the current system, except with a button on the crown store instead of sending a ticket to Support.

So you can only gift items which are currently in the crown store, through the crown interface. If you buy an item it's bound to your account just like it is now and you won't be able to send it to someone else later on.

Also for what it's worth Guild Wars 2 has had this system for years and I've never heard of anyone gifting cash shop items to another person in exchange for gold. Never seen it advertised or discussed or even suggested. Although they do also allow players to buy crown store currency with gold (within the store interface, not by trading with each other) so there's not really any reason to go through another player unless you really want to get scammed.

Edit: Come to think of it the new gifting system may still send a ticket to Customer Support, and if not I'm sure they can still see who has been gifting what, same way they can see everything else we do in-game. So they'd be able to track it and if someone sends out several 'gifts' and mysteriously receives gold by mail around the same time it will be pretty clear to them what's going on.

Looking forward to this. I am going to hire a tutor and use items from Crown Store to pay him. It will be a challenge for him/her but hopefully they can get me to at least average in Pvp

Why would you gift something to someone who doesn't want it ?

Don't think of it as gifting but more as trading crown store items for gold/items/services in game. Now players can troll each other by agreeing to an exchange of crown store items for gold/items/services and then backing out of the deal. Now the player has spent crown on something that will either be stolen from them or returned to the gifter who can't use the item, get a refund for it and is forced to hold onto it hoping they find someone else to "gift" it to.

Maybe, but, I kinda doubt it. At least not with an unknown party, simply because of trust issues, and the potential for all kinds of stupid to go down. That said, we'll probably see threads from people saying, "I agreed to give someone 1m in exchange for X in the store, and then they backed out, what can I do?"

Well it that's what they are going to do then that is the risk they take.
