My main character is a 200cp sorc and yesterday I decided I wanted to make an alt just for a change in scenery in between continuing to level up. I quite fancied a healer alt.

I picked the warden class and during character creation, purely for aesthetics, I choose to go with a Bosmer. However after looking at the racial passives (something I probably should of checked out before hand) I noticed it all seems to be stamina oriented. And it is my understanding that warden healers use magika?

My question is, do I need to re role it into a different race? I don't want to gimp myself. And if so, which race? I wanted to go anything but a Altmer as my sorc is an Altmer. I was thinking maybe an Argonian? From a lore point of view Bosmer and saxhleel seemed like the only decent choices.

Yes as a healer you want to go with a magika race.
    Good choices are:

    Altmer
    Argonian
    Breton

Ok, shame.. I spent so long on the creation screen getting her right as well! I think I'll go with the middle option.

    Thank you!

It depends on what you want to do with your alt.

Will you try to max it out, then you may want to choose the race with optimal stats for endgame play.

Will you RolePlay, than you may want to choose the race to be in line with the backstory.

You don't know yet? There are plenty of options to change the way your characters deals damage, heals and takes damage that the race choice isn't really that big of an issue if you just want your char to look the way you want it to

    You have 3 options:
    1. Ignore the minmaxing of racial passives and go magicka anyway. Really, racial passives don't make such a huge difference, specially on non-DPS roles.
    2. Re-roll as a more magicka-friendly race. Argonians are BiS for a magicka healer, and they also fit the warden lore.
    3. You can actually try a Stamden healer. It can work, but it's not obvious to most people.

Here you can read about Stamden healers and what others think about them (and build ideas):

My most recent warden is an Argonian, because both the race and the class are good fits for healer, tank, and hybrid heal/tank.

Yes, you'll definitely want a magicka-based race. Healers need a large supply of magicka when you're healing in dungeons, because if you run out, people will die. Choosing one of the magicka races will ensure a good supply of magic.
I'd also choose the mundus stone that gives you magicka regeneration, which is The Atronach. You can choose a damage-based mundus stone while you're leveling the character, then switch to The Atronach before doing a dungeon as a healer.

I'm warden healing with a fat nord

    Greatsword front bar
    Bow backbar

    64 points in stamina.

Powerful Assault jewelry, greatsword and hat (will be removed once summerset hits)
Hunding's Rage body pieces (soon to be replaced with War Machine, I'm missing a jack)
    Molak Kena Pauldrons

working pretty fine so far, but only for small scale content, like dunjons and such, I'm not sure I'd be taking it into trials, but I heard people did.

Ideally I would like to go greatsword for trash and sword&board for bosses, but I don't have monies for powerful assault 1h and shield.

Was healing Scalecaller Peak yesterday, but the tank was pretty good on his own, so there's that...

Appreciate the helpful comments. As for stamhealers...I have no idea how that works for now so I will stick with magika based healing for now.

Head lore is important to me so I'm going to go with the only other one that makes sense, Argonian. I mean Bretons do use healing magic but they don't really much of a connection to nature, not like the wood elf and the Hist folk.

Warden Stamina healer is plenty viable, btw, but I wouldn't take it into a trial, for purely buffs/debuffs reasons.

Mag healers can use Jorvuld's, SPC, Mending, Sanctuary, etc.

Stam healers are pretty much glorified off-tanks, and the amount of people running war machine kinda makes it useless.

The only saving grace is powerful assault, but you can only hit a limited number of players (6 iirc, I might be wrong about that), so it really shines in small scale content (DSA, dungeons).

If you plan to take it into trials, probably making a magicka healer is better. If you want something fun to run, stamina warden healer is pretty fun, and plenty viable.

I mean, you can use spc and jorvulds, and mending on stam healer, but what's the point of going stam at that point ?

Only re-roll if you want to do the more hardcore content like trials and competitive PvP (and even then, who cares). As for the rest of the game, a Bosmer Warden is fine. I should know, my new main is one and have yet to have any issues with it

I've both tried being stamina based and now magicka based, and I definitely prefer the magicka based as there are more morphing options. But the whole gist of ESO is finding a combo that you like, so try playing with your new alt a bit, and then make a decision. I have found that just because some builds or combos are "better", doesn't necessarily mean they fit well with your play style. Do what you find enjoyable

    Good luck out there

Well, not all Bretons. The Reachmen and the Wyrd are Bretons and they do share a strong connection with nature and healing magic.
