I know they have an official armor name but I don't recall what it is right now. What's your opinion on them?

I wouldn’t mind them so much if they didn’t autoclip every dual wield set. It looks so stupid with my swords shoved through my hip guards.

I mean I get what they were going for but to design a large portion of the armor so that it clips normal equipment, and to keep doing it? Most the things I want to put here would probably get me in trouble. So I’ll just say, I would not have done it.

They look good on some sets but terrible on others.
Would be awesome if we had a hide option or if the flaps were part of the belts.

I wish they were attached to the waist slot instead of the chest slot.

Tassets are why only two of my ten characters have outfits. They can't all wear Order of the Hour or Minotaur chests.

ON being the keyword. Most aren't ON anything. They're more like "in the neighbourhood" or "running alongside" but definitely not ON. :|

How attached they are or aren't doesn't seem relevant to the OP's question.

If the question were "how do you feel about the six inch gap between hips and hip flaps on armor," then my response to the poll would be different.

Someone (perhaps you?) made the same suggestion the other week and it's been stuck in my head ever since. The waist slot is pretty low-impact as it is, so this would be a great way to make use of that outfit slot.

But really, I just want to pair the Breton hip satchel with everything.

Haha! It wasn't me but I've had that exact same thought about the Breton hip satchel!

Forget class balance, server lag fixes, or ui improvements. The qol improvement we need is waist slot flaps! Make it happen ZOS!

    They just float there.

On steel armor, it seems to be fine, but on cloth and leather? Nah.

The correct term is "tassets". It's a separate part (nine times out of ten) of armor, which usually fastens to the belt. Check a living example below.
    faulds-and-tassets-epic-dark-20091800-iron-fortress.jpg
Historically, such kind of protection usually go with the breastplate, i.e. heavy armor in terms of RPG. Sometimes it can be found in pair with sturdy leather breast armor as well (medium armor), but I didn't saw any uses of them with shirts or robes (light armor)... until I played ESO. Most likely you will never put on tassets without decent upperbody protection, right? Makes sense. Just check out how it looks on the Mages Guild Leggings Uniform. And yeah, they look clumsy.

P.S. Unfortunately, ZOS designers don't give a heck about how sometimes out of place/silly tassets are. Lately introduced motifs prove it. I strongly doubt, that something will be changed.

I wouldn't mind them so much, if they were properly attached, or didn't look unnecessarily bulky, even for medium and light armor.

Same could be said for the elbow/knee guards. They either don't fit well, or they are floating attached to nothing.

Would like to see improvements on that regard. Would make me use more armor pieces to dress in at least.

It is still a bit bad when metal plate armour behaves as though it is painted on. The tassets tend to follow proper physics give or take any clipping issues. The fact that you can watch metal armour expand and contract when a player or npc breathes in or out looks a bit silly. Perhaps it is difficult otherwise to make one size fits all armour without relying on retexturing the underlying body model. I believe metal armour rendered more realistically in Skyrim.

Yep, tassets are a part of real plate sets, but the don't hang on the side of the hips! The hang IN FRONT of the thighs. When mounted, one wore two. When dismounted, there might be a third added to cover the groin. In this game having tassets hanging out over the side of the hip is just silly, and they're not really protecting anything while the thighs are left exposed. What gets even sillier, is that armor types that wouldn't use tassets have them too, like chain and leather and even robes.

And like the shoulder pieces, how the frack are they attached? I know this is a fantasy game, but what kind of tailor-shop magic is this. I know one playing a game wants to have to contemplate the logistics of armor and encumbrance, but this game's fixation on floaty butt-pads is kinda ridiculous.

Front of the hips: meat and arteries and nerve clusters. Side of the hips: meat and bone. Yeah, where would your tassets hang?
