I have around 150 days in. Full time job and a girlfriend that like to ride a bike when the weather gets nice( I do too). But I once did the calculation, it was around 13% of my life that I spend in the game.

2000 days is like 6 years.

I think you missed a decimal point @Lightspeedflashb14_ESO

    It's 1.3% more than likely

    I've lived 11,000 days, 150 is like 1.4% of my life. I think you forgot a 0

Edit: if you mean daily, 13% is like 3 hours, so sounds about right

I have this addon installed, total is ~137 days, figured out when it was 134 days that with the amount of money I have put toward the game, it is around 10 cents an hour for game time. Also I average 3 hours a day, about 13% of my life since I started playing in February 2015.

i have put 13 days into the game in the last 4 months, really low compared to some other months i have played.

    2,880 hours... 13 days is 312 of that, that's 10%... 30% ish sleeping.

60% of your life is devoted to not sleeping and not eso-ing.

Look at that video. That guy lost over 10 years of his life basically and there's countless people in the eso community that (will) share his fate.

    Sucks to be them?

I mean seriously, I can't really blame the game. It's not the game's fault that they can't balance their life.

Here’s the /played stats for my 9 characters

    1 - 134 days 23 hours - 3239 Hours
    2 - 35 days 11 hours - 851 Hours
    3 - 23 days 16 hours - 568 Hours

    217.5 full 24 hour days

What am I doing with my life.

But on the flip side, I do have nearly every achievement in the game, 5 and 1/2 master anglers, 25 million gold, well over 100-150 million in assets and spent gold (man I wish there was an overall gold earned counter) and then some.

So what’s you guys /played look like? I’m very curious.

PS - In case you didn’t know. You can type /played into the chat box and hit enter and it will tell you the amount of time played on that character.

the question is what would you have otherwise done - don't get me wrong, yeah, you could invest your time much better- getting an education, reading books, meeting friends, finding a spouse to marry, having kids, starting a company etc...much more meaningful stuff lets be real - BUT - would you do these things? Because if stop playing eso simply means you play other games or watch tv shows etc...you're not really giving up anything and that would most likely happen...

let's face it, in the first world most people live in a comfort zone and not everyone can be Elon Musk...he has fun with flamethrowers and planning to overthrow the world governments with his circle of supervillains, and you play ESO...

    @DoctorESO

That would put you at 274 BC, so the era of the Roman Republic. A modest regional power. Exactly a decade before the start of the Punic Wars, in which the defeat of Carthage would signal the ascension of the Latin state to the imperial status most are familiar with. The apex civilizations of this era to really look at are the Mauryan Empire of India, and the post-Alexander Hellenistic states; the Seleucid Empire in Persia, Mesopotamia, Anatolia & The Levant and the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt.

Speaking of Rome tho, they did have that one figure of speech- bread and circuses. Video games such as ESO and the litany of other digital opiates of the day fill in nicely for the ‘circus’ part of this phrase in our time.

Honestly rest and relaxation is good for you and everybody in your life. Nothing wrong with that. And some of us are extroverts and prefer the comfort of a nice MMO over other entertainment choices.

ESO can be addictive, the entire content of the internet can be addictive, but so too can golf, sports, eating tv etc etc etc. Some of us have addictive personalities I am not sure the whole of the world should be engineered to protect us from ourselves. However to say games such as eso have no value is wrong, play (the need to play)is hardwired in humans, it’s part of how we learn and experience the world. ESO, like other activities that require focus, have the ability to give your mind a rest from rl stress - mindfulness . Computer games like eso also provide (limited but real) socialisation, a way to keep in touch with friends and make new distant friends. This is a benefit particularly to those who are physically isolated for whatever reason.

There are negatives to playing too much no one can really deny that, this addiction can lead to spending beyond your means (just rationalised buying a £1000 computer when in reality it’s just to play eso)

If you feel addicted you probably are.

You're absolutely right. Most of what we do isn't really beneficial to anyone. Even your job, is most likely the product of a disfunctioning society.

Most of our lives are ultimately meaningless. Very few among us have the privilege to create something for which they will be remembered. The overwhelming majority of us will one day come to rest in an unmarked grave and will be forgotten within a generation or two. I struggle with this realisation, it makes me profoundly sad. But even if you will not go down in history, I still think you can give your life meaning by being kind and by cultivating friendships, thus helping humanity (even if it's just a little bit).

But you have a strong argument as well. If life is pointless, why not enjoy it? And if video games make you happ, I don't want to deny anyone that pleasure  .

Note: I know this sounds pseudo-philosophical and very cliché...but I can't explain it any better. :(

    @Ectheliontnacil

You are right, that's the point I was trying to make.

Hopefully for you, you will become at peace with that realisation and do whatever fits you best :)

That's an average of 3.5 hours a day over the course of four years. If you have some long play sessions (weekends and whatnot), it adds up quickly.

I suspect a good portion of that is character idle, where you may or may not have actually been sitting at the keyboard actively doing something. (If that makes you feel any better).

I'd really like to know why the Devs have not implemented a /PlayedAll to save you the trouble?

You say it's like being a regular at a bar and pllaying in moderation is ok. Well perhaps you're right but I would disagree. No matter how often you play, gaming is useless, it serves no purpose whatsoever. Humanity and yourself do not profit from gaming, even though you may enjoy it.

Wow I don't even know where to begin. So first of all, if humanity doesn't profit from it, you shouldn't do it? That's a highly unrealistic and impractical attitude. It's like watching TV or any other hobby to blow off steam, in fact it's better than watching TV, because you can socialise with your friends and other people while you play. And it's an activity designed to let you relax and bring you enjoyment. You NEED some of those in life.
Every game released (MMOs especially) has the potential to ruin thousands of lives.
Yes. And you know what else does? Everything in the world. You can get addicted to food (lots of people do), trading cards, watching movies, getting plastic surgery, exercise, shopping, literally everything and anyything. Does every single company in the world that produces something deserve this same scrutiny? And if you say no, ask yourself: why not? Why are video games special?
It is true that you have a problem and so do I along with countless others. Many of us have spent hours or years even, playing video games or binge watching youtube/netflix. There's no excuse for this, it isn't normal and it isn't just "doing something you enjoy". We're running away from reality but there is no escaping life, addiction will not solve any problems.
Not everybody who plays ESO, even for many hours a day, has a problem. As long as you can maintain a healthy balance with real life (work, family, etc), then go for it I say. Some people use MMOs as a method of escaping life, it's true, but I believe they are the exception rather than the norm- most people I speak to in games know to prioritise their real lives, like normal people do.

Lol. Some of the replies on here make it sound as if people are having welfare checks called in on them (where the police come make sure you're in one piece) as a result of the game.

As long as you're getting your IRL stuff taken care of, what is the grand concern?

Are there better things you could be doing with your time (not sure by who's definition.)? Sure

Are there far worse? Same answer.

If you find enjoyment in it, if it relieves more stress than it causes, it's a net gain. That goes for you and the rest of the world.

Not all of your spare time has to be spent helping teach homeless kittens how to knit in a foreign language. Not being negative to the world as a result of having positive downtime doing something you enjoy is just as beneficial, even if it's less often noticed
