ZOS, Please Increase the ESO In-Game Friends List Size Limit from 100 to 200 or 300.

You can be in up to 5 guilds per account, that hold up to 500 members each, for a total of 2,500 potential-unique guild members; but, we can only have 100 people on our ESO Friends List?
4 years of ESO have past. @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom Maybe it is time to double the Friends List size limit from 100 to 200. For ESO subscribers-only benefit, even?
I've been playing since launch/beta, and 100 is way too low for a modern MMORPG, especially one of ESO's caliber and potential.

Final Fantasy XI, the first cross-platform mmorpg that came out in 2001, had an in-game friends-list size of 300 or so people, and I played that from 2006 to 2013, until ESO came out in 2014.
It really does not make much sense that you can have 2,500 people across a multi-tiered guild system but only 100 people on your ESO in-game friends list.

I constantly find myself at 100/100 friends all the time, even if many of them are currently inactive and on a long break from the game, they may still return to the game at any point in time. And I constantly find myself not wanting to delete anyone, especially if the ESO friends-list is my only mode of communication to that person and we don't share a Discord server or other mode/means of communication to get back in touch.
As far as leaving your friends in guild(s) go (if you happen to share a guild together with them), they usually get kicked for being inactive or you/they left for a more active/larger guild (trading guilds, especially!), which further polarizes the player-base, but that is a separate issue entirely.

I can't be the only one in 2018 who thinks that a limit of 100 for an mmorpg in-game friends-list is too small. Is there a technical reason behind this, or did a ZOS employee pull a number from a hat, or what?

Does anyone else feel the same way? I know my '2,500' guildies do.

I have a guild-slot dedicated to being full of inactive friends, and it comes with free extra bank/storage space, too!
But, yeah, ZOS needs to do something about the measly 100-friends limit. ZOS should double the Friends List size from 100 to 200, regardless if you are an ESO subscriber or not. What good is an MMO-rpg if you cannot have or play with your friends?

More friends and more ignores for my list as well. I've personally never filled up the friends list, but I'm constantly clearing my ignore list so I can fill it again. Let us all have a much higher limit. My time in Star Trek Online was more enjoyable due to being able to ignore a seemingly endless wave of fools. I wish I could do that here.

Agreed with anyone who wished for a bigger ignore list. And since this would probably go hand-in-hand with the bigger friend's list I agree with that as well, of course. (; I'm personally also running out of space on my ignore list (my friend list rarely ever had more than 10 friends) but I see why other people would enjoy a bigger one - just as some of us could really use a bigger ignore list.

Don't be dramatic. There is a vast difference between 1,000,000,000 and 100...
And if you've been playing for as long and as active as I have, then you would realize that 50 (your number) and 100 (the current limit) are both too small.

It's really easy to get 100 friends and know them all if you create notes for them. I always put up their character name and how we know each other as well as other notable things. That way I only need a quick glance at my friend list to remember who just came online or whispered me.

Suggestion: Learn the difference between "Friends" and "Acquaintances". Also, stop friending guild mates. With 5 guilds, you already have Friends List capacity of 2500 guild-mates with the guild rosters. You can set your notifications to let you know when guildies go on and offline. You don't need them in your friends list.

Except when Acquaintances become your friends...?
That is typically how social relationships work: stranger > acquaintance > friend.
Also, your friends are typically the ones in your guilds, especially if it is a low-man group / tight-knit guild/community that is active everyday with events, etc, lol.
And, if you don't control the guilds or have a say in their respective social-structures/management-style,then you don't know how long people (your 'friends') will last there.
Just look at trading guilds, 50 people get kicked or purged for not meeting 'sales requirements' or being inactive or for being logged off on a low-lvl character or the guild leader/officer randomly decided to kick you or your friend(s) to make guild space for their own friends, and so on... 50 people get kicked a day and 50 people join everyday, or every other day, whatever that guild's policy is.
And if you are unfamiliar with any of the above situations/examples, then you haven't been a part of any of the major guilds that own the most popular guild traders week in and week out.

Again, simple solution: ZOS can simply increase the size of the Friends List.
If you don't like it or don't care for it, then simply don't add any more people to your friends list? Lol? I'm not sure what is so difficult about that to understand. If you like your measly 50 friends or 100 friends, then simply do not add anyone else. That doesn't mean the rest of us have to abide by your own biased low-ball hard-limit standards, lol.
No one manages your social network other than you, so you can't tell other people how to manage theirs.
Every guild and person that I have talked to in-game about this topic has said they wanted an increase in Friends List size. Hence why I made a post about it.

In addition, ESO is only getting bigger and bigger with new content every quarter; yet our friends list size is remaining the same and not scaling with the size and content of the game.
With the "One Tamriel" update over a year ago that opened up the 3 factions, our Friends List size should have triple from 100 to 300, lol. What are you going to do with your new AD/DC characters when all of your initial friends/guilds are on EP (or vice versa).

TL;DR: An increase in Friends List size would be beneficial or neutral to all players. There is no drawback or negative aspect in anyway. If you think otherwise, then you are either a troll or a fool, really, lol.

It is as simple as that.

    Exactly, same here.
My most-inactive friend was the person who held the longest-reigning Emperor title in ESO's history (he held Emperor for 87 days straight, or something, IIRC). Anyway, me and my guild, with the help of others, had dethroned him 3 days before the "90-day" campaign scoreboard/leader-board reset, lol.

Do you really need 2,500 friends?

I have friends on my list I don't even know. They want to be my friend but then never talk to me. Every now and then someone will take a break from the game and then whisper me "Hi, how have you been? Remember me?". In 99.9% cases, I have no clue who they are, but politely respond with wiith, "Yes, i remember you. How are you?".

I have 100 friends, but I have less then 10 real friends on my friends list.

In case you did not read, the suggestion was to increase the Friends List size from the current/default 100-limit and increase it to 200 or 300. Not to 2,500...
I was making a comparison of Friends List size limit to the Guild size limit, which is ridiculous when you compare the two.

As to your other comment, this is why you "create a note" next to the person's account-name so that you remember how you met/what you did, etc. Because each person has up to 8 characters with different names. It can be hard to remember all of them. All of my 100/100 friends each have a note by their account name denoting how we met or what we did, and I put in the date of when they were added.

Since ZOS is finally giving The Imperial City DLC away for free, thus slightly devaluing ESO Plus memberships, maybe ZOS could double the Friend's List Size Limit for ESO Plus members from 100 to 200 to compensate?

ESO is one of very few modern MMORPGs with such a small Friend's List size limit.
In FFXI, one could have 300 Friends per account, and FFXI released in 2002.
ESO released in 2014, what exactly is the technical reason for such a small Friend's List limit?

    Guilds =/= Friend's List.
Friends stay in touch regardless of guild association.
Guilds are faction-locked, too big or too small (in both size and player/social activity), and many have strange social structures (ranks) or stupid rules, not to mention the dozens of pure self-important 'Trading Guilds' that just hound players for monetary donations to keep their gold sink trader every week. What a chore. These are not friends, more like opportunists.

I would rather have a larger Friend's List size so that I can enjoy the game on my own terms, with my own friends, rather than be boggled down by mass-mail SPAM from Trader Guilds requesting more sales and donations for their self-important agenda and social schemes. Or, vice versa -- the opposite, be a part of a few dead, empty inactive guilds of ~50 players, with no more than 5 ever online at any given time.

A larger Friend's List size limit would put greater emphasis on the many social features and social systems of the game.
Not guilds. Guilds are just a cheap scheme of "Who Wants To Play Politics" or "Who Wants To Build An Empire."

Some of us just want to play ESO with all the many friends we've met across the years of the game, without measly little restrictions like a small Friend's List size of 100 players.

Making the friend list larger is a great idea. I don't have many friends on the game, don't care to, but either way it isn't going to bother me and I don't feel the need to inject judgmental venom about it. Great idea OP!

Maybe it is time to cull that list of players you have not interacted with in a bit and players already in one of your guilds. Pretty sure that list can be cleared out a good bit.
