How did "tea bagging" a character get started and why do people think it's funny?

TBagging came from Halo and I'm glad that the community we had in Halo influences others to this day. TBagging isn't something to get mad about unless you're a child who gets mad about someone crouching over your dead body.

So in short if you're mad that you get Tbagged in PvP or PvE or wherever that is in online gaming then you are the problem and not the action because it's boils down to maturity. People are gonna TBag and trash talk, when I get Tbagged I just laugh or sometimes I don't even notice it but nonetheless I keep moving.

Don’t read too much into it. There are those who call it “sexual harassment” and get really upset when it happens to them, but really, teabagging is little more than an (admittedly immature) way to express dominance. People do it ironically as well. My first clear of vet Scalecaller Peak was with a PuG. It took us about 45 very frustrating minutes to defeat Zaan. We teabagged the HECK out of her when we finally defeated her. Funniest thing about it? Only the tank was a dude — the rest of us were ladies and technically had no, er, bags with which to tea. :D The only time I ever teabag in Cyrodiil is when a bomber tries to bomb and fails spectacularly. If people do it to me, I really don’t care. I used to care, and then I got a bit older and realized that getting upset over a taunt in an online video game is the very definition of a first world problem.

Very insightful, thank you. So I understand now that it is a way of expressing dominance. But why is teabagging the go-to method of expressing dominance? Why not some other obnoxious maneuver, like /shovel or /sweep, as @IndianaGeoff and @DieAlteHexe mentioned? Is the sexual nature of it part of the "dominance" concept (as with nonconsensual sex, which is viewed primarily as a dominance-asserting manuever)?

Seems like an outgrowth of all the awful things that 'jock' type bullies would pull on the 'wimpy' kids in the locker room - many of which would, these days, be considered sexual assault. But yeah, same kind of muscle-head/fratbro/bully garbage that shows up in sports & fraternity hazing.

Why they think it's funny? Because they're immature manchildren who think that same kind of thing is amusing in real life? (Or because they're the ones getting bullied IRL, and online games is a way for them to get back for it?)

Insightful, thank you. Do "bullies" actually "teabag" people in real life? I would think that such an act would have the opposite effect of increasing their social standing.

That's the whole question. Why is teabagging "funnier" than /shovel or /sweep? If it's the player's reactions, then why is the reaction so much more severe for "teabagging" than /shovel or /sweep? What is it about teabagging that causes the funniness or the severe reaction?

People do it because its funny mate...

Your reactions for example would be amusing to many

That's the whole question. Why is teabagging "funnier" than /shovel or /sweep? If it's the player's reactions, then why is the reaction so much more severe for "teabagging" than /shovel or /sweep? What is it about teabagging that causes the funniness or the severe reaction?

Why is anything funny? At its core this question can apply to any humour and therefor its a useless question.

We're talking about teabagging in this thread.

The point he/she is making is that humor is subjective.

And my question is why do the people who think it's funny think it's funny? That's the whole point.

Mate, you don't understand my point. Your very question cannot be answered because humor is subjective.

Au contraire, mon frère. Sit back and watch the world work wonders.

I think it’s funny because I’m putting my teabag on your face. That’s it.

How did "tea bagging" a character get started and why do people think it's funny? It seems very, very peculiar to me.

Tea-bagging started in quake 1 back in the 90's.

Where does it come from ? I don't know, Internet and many people mention CounterStrike. It's not ESO specific, it's part of video gaming culture - which doesn't make it any more OK whatsoever.

Why teabagging and not some funny /sweep or /bucket emote ? Because it's sexual. Somehow some people think that anything sexual is fancy, spicy and cool. Look at advertising, magazines, etc. I believe that the less people actually "practice" sex in the real lives; the more they feel the need to pretend they're having a lot of it and are totally at ease with it. Experience shows that it's totally the opposite : people happy their sex lives keep it where it belongs : to their private lives and shared with a few chosen ones. Also, some people seem to think that "sex" is transgression. There's nothing more mainstream and widely shown as sex nowadays, but somehow they think it proves they have "cojones". Don't ask me why...

And why do they think it's funny ? because it's mean. Some people (and not so few of them) nowadays seems to think that hurting people - or at least trying to - is soooo fun and cool. Don't ask me why though, I don't get that either.

I totally ignore it ingame - else I'd never set foot in Cyrodiil. But admittedly, there's far less Teabagging in PC/EU than in PC/NA. Is it that big of a deal ? I don't know. Maybe not. Maybe yes. Maybe it shouldn't. Maybe it should. Sure, there are far more important issues in life to deal with. But still... it reveals the very dark side of [some] people.

Focus less on the why and more on getting revenge. Isn't that what PvP is about?

When people tea bag me it hurts my feelings. I am a very sensitive person and I would like it if people would stop doing this to me. It makes me feel like I am being bullied.

Sometimes I will whisper the offender but then they just laugh at me.

Yeah, I kind of already knew this based on some of your responses in other threads.

The general rule of thumb when dealing with trolls: do the opposite of what you would usually do.

So if you would usually message the person and let them know it bothers you, don't do that. The troll is looking for that satisfaction, and they view it as positive feedback, encouraging them to troll further.

Remember, if someone is doing something explicitly ingame to hurt your feelings, most of the time it's either a troll or an arsehole.

Doesn't matter which, the same advice goes: don't feed them. Ignore, and move on.

Sometimes it's not just one individual but a group of individuals that begin tea bagging me if I am killed. I really get upset when this happens.
