FEATURE suggestion: Guild blacklisting

Hi Zos,

Would you perhaps consider a blacklisting by handle feature for the guilds?

I know that this would help guilds tremendously to combat people that join guilds with nefarious intent to steal all the guilds resources etc.

Once this occurs guilds would at least be informed through social channels and "soft-ban" these people from spreading their poison.

It would work similar to the ignore, thus auto-declining guild invites/ requests from players that the guild have added to the blacklisting of their guild.

Or stop letting everyone in your guild bank. Make them work for it.
Most guild banks are filled with trash anyway so who cares if they take it.

Very backwards. There is only crap in guild banks because no one trusts the limited system for guild bank management to actually protect more valuable stuff.

I know of someone (can't name and shame because of TOS reasons) that worked for it and then stole everything.

Most of them, not all, and within that "trash" you usually find a lot of good stuff for your mains or alts, like missing motifs, recipes and so.

Only problem I have with this is the potential to grief someone. With no real check on whether someone "did the deed", I could see blacklisting being used to mess with someone who whilst innocent has managed to annoy people.

This is just silly. So all I have to do is get with my other guild buddies and spread the word that @drkfrontiers is a guild bank thief and you're "blacklisted". This is best handled among yourselves and through due diligence.
Don't get me wrong, I despise these type of thieving scumbags, but your idea just isn't practical.

Honestly I thought this rant was about making a marker on guilds you find that do some questionable things that you can jot for latter to avoid.

Unlike the Ignore button which is only one person, this has a lot more potential to cause more grief for the innocent than protection from the guilty.

So unless that can be addressed, I doubt ZOS will implement this.

Especially since unless your guild has an "open-bank" policy, it hopefully takes time and effort for someone to work themselves up to the rank needed, hopefully plenty of time for people to recognize a known, repeat offender.

Bingo. You nailed it right on the head.

I could see the big cabal guilds using this to grief or even share with other GMs to prevent the user from joining other guilds.

I think intention is good with this, but it will go badly.

I would rather have a black list function if you for some reason have to kick someone. If you remove from guild, that you get a popup asking if you want to blacklist. Then they have to be invited by someone with the correct permissions on their rank, not just permission to invite, to be re invited. There are some bad apples out there, not just the ones that empty your bank, but you have the ones that cant behave.

We shouldn't be punishing the majority because of the minority though.

There is no reason ZOS couldn't have a black list for guilds. That said an update which allowed multi-tierd bank access would do the same thing and be just as nice.

This right here. There is no way to verify the innocence or guilt of someone in this case. A system such as this has the potential to cause far more grief than good, I think. ZOS is wise to let guilds manage their own "blacklists".

Guilds already do this, and not just big ones. GM's talk to each other, and we pass along information when people rob a guild bank or are disruptive, for instance. Even though my guild bank is locked to store auction items and prizes, I personally don't want the type of person that would rob shared assets from a community as a part of MY community.

However, with name changing as easy as it is now, a blacklist is beside the point. A person could rob a guild blind, change their name, and get reinvited to the same guild in a matter of minutes.

Given the anonymity in a game, there's not much incentive to do so. Yes, they can but I sure wouldn't bet the bank on it.

I agree with you. People that steal from guild banks are punks.

But I also have seen a fair amount of petty “high school drama”. People getting killed in PVP by guildmates, salt etc.
