Are Maelstrom/Asylum/Master weapons still viable post Summerset?

So what about Maelstrom restoration staff? Will it be useful in PvE? Or PvP for that matter? I'm clueless...

Sential monster helm > Master resto by far

    This is true.

Except that the spider can be killed and runs to a random position, where as healing springs can be placed where needed. Sure, the tooltip stamina regain is bigger for the sentinal, but it also has its drawbacks.

ZOS won't let those weapons be useless. People spent too much time and effort farming them and would be furious. They'll buff them if it looks like set weapons will end up being stronger. I'm sure they've already thought of this, and have probably already tested it.

ZOS doesn't have a strong record of itemization, especially not when it comes to sweeping changes to the game.

No. Or at least, "probably not." The ability altering resto staves are probably going to be the least viable after this kicks over. You can still run one, and you could continue a 5/willpower or grace/monster/master build if you're using one now. But, the ability to run SPC/Mending/Monster is far more attractive overall, than having an SPC/Mending/(Maelstrom, Master, or Asylum) build currently.

Stuff like the Maelstrom Bow, or Maelstrom Destro Staff are more questionable as the 5/5/Monster builds are going to be very competitive for that weapon slot.

The thing is that they didn't get worse. Still, it would be nice to get their weapon/spell or mag/stam bonus again as a 1pc bonus.

Since the asylum/vma two handers and staves only have a single set bonus but are occupying 2 slots i feel that they will need a buff or return the weapon damage bonus in order for them to be competative with a 4/5 piece bonus from another set.

I feel the return of that weapon damage bonus will make them comparable.

But i feel there wont be the drive to grind for them anymore which to be honest i welcome. Even after getting 15 characters thier weapons of choice :/
I was thinking exactly this when I heard about the weapon changes. It’s nerfing vMA and Master weapons. I really hope they look into this.

Absolutely they will still be viable. Will they be BIS? Maybe for some things.

I dont think VMA backbar weapons are going anywhere, nor do I think Perfected Asylum staffs are going anywhere.

The back bar is obvious, as you can still go 5/2/2 on your damage bar. The front bar really comes down to this: Is 3 Gold Willpower + a Perfected Asylum staff better than the next best 5 piece set. I think the answer is yes on any build where you can sustain a FP rotation, but only time will tell. That said, I think the change certainly closes the gaps between the haves and have nots.
