Warden with bow/OH?? - Armor?

Playing a warden, and my first weapon choice is a bow. Which between using the animal companions skill line and bow skill line, is working out great so far.

Opinions on best off hand weapon choice?

Opinions on armor?

Considering I’m going to be using magicka & stamina skills, I was thinking medium/light. But idk whether to use 5 medium and 2 light, or vice versa.

Also, if I chose 5 medium/2 light, which slots would I want to input the 2 light pieces in?

Belt and hands give the least resistance, so if you go 2 light that is where they would fit best.

The other I don't understand how to answer.

As a noob it was hard for me to understand a lot of what sodantok was saying.

At this point all I want to know is good opinions for an off hand weapon, and what slot should I equip the 2 light armor pieces.

I would actually use head piece and shoulders for 2 LA or MA. When summerset goes live we will be able to run 5/5/2 set bonuses with our bows. The monster sets are available in all armor variations and therefore the easiest to adapt, if you switch from a 5/5 LA set to 5/5 MA set.

Let’s back up and give you advice aimed at a completely new player, lol.

    - You can’t mess a character up. Every decision you make can be undone. Morphs and skills can be reallocated. Feel free to experiment and learn by trying anything that sounds like it’d work. there are plenty of skill points in the game. Spend freely on any ability or passive that seems helpful.

    - it is helpful to turn on combat text, which displays your damage done per attack. It’s in the gameplay menu...under combat, I think. Or interface. It’s helpful for New players because you can start to see which abilities are most effective, and how they work with each other.

    Stam or Magic character?

Although you will use abilities from both resources, in ESO a character will generally specialize in one or the other. They usually pick a “fighting resource” that is used for their attacks, then their backup resource is for buffs, heals and other side tasks.

If you are using a bow, it means you’re wanting a stamina character. Make sure your skill advisor is set to a stam warden. (It’s in your menu...skills advisor...then L3 on PS4 to change the build). Once you’ve set it, the game will help you pick the right skills and morphs.

    Weapons

A stam character can use any of the four physical weapon lines. Wardens are very versatile and do great with any of them. I love bow too...it’s a great line, and wardens overcome some of the bow’s weaknesses (mainly the risk of being overrun).

Dual wield is also great... bow/dw might be a place to start. The first two dual wield abilities have morphs that offer healing with their damage...very useful for a new player.

    Armor

In ESO, generally light armor is for magic, medium is for stamina, and heavy tanks you up. On my magic characters I learn light and heavy, and on my stamina characters I learn medium and heavy. Most end up wearing almost all light or medium, then a piece or two of heavy for protection. There are super powerful buffs when you’ve leveled and wear five plus pieces of a type...a stamina character will usually wear five medium.

But feel free to wear any armor you like for now. Down the road when you understand the mechanics a bit better you can choose based on that...for now your character will do fine in any weight gear. If you’re wearing two light, the belt and gloves penalize you a little less, but it’s a pretty tiny difference. Don’t stress about it too much.

Tip: you have to wear three pieces of a type to get the skill line to show up. If you’re missing any of the three armor lines, this is why. Go steal some and wear it.

    Skill Line Leveling

I won’t go over everything, but it might help to explain that class skill lines and weapon skills lines level as you earn XP *while skills from those lines are slotted*. If you don’t slot any Animal Companion abilities, the line will never level. There are some powerful abilities and passives down the lines, so try to make bars that balance out your class lines and keep them all working up.

Welcome to the game! Always feel free to ask any questions...there are a ton of vets who will step in and help out. For those sort of questions, I’d suggest the “players helping players” section of the forums. You can always post here in general, but it’s less crowded in the other section and people know to look there for helping answer questions.
