Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but this is my understanding:

*Heavy attacks hit harder but take longer to channel resulting in less DPS than light attacks, but you regain resources as a trade off.

*Light attacks don't hit for as much as heavy attacks but you can attack with them more frequently, resulting in higher DPS.

Then you can get into weaving light/heavy attacks into your rotation but that seems like a conversation for another thread.

Heavy attacks deal more damage but if you are considering DPS light attacks are superior.

The motive behind heavy and light attacks are:

Heavy attacks: to restore more resource (Magicka and stamina)
Light attacks: to deal more damage.

...And people used to wonder why I Light attacked in trials... Hmmmm, maybe there was a method to that madness.... I was weaving light attacks when weaving light attacks wasn't cool....
True for some skills only heavy attacks will charge them up... but for example, the Spectral Bow... light attacks will suffice and are quicker...

I'm assuming you were casing other skills between light attacks? Otherwise I could see why people may be upset.

There is using light attacks in trial and there is using only light attacks in trial.lets not mix those two. It is ok to use light attacks for animation cancelling or within a rotation. But then if you use only light attacks in trial, well let's say I want to be there and see your groups reaction.
