So, a bit of backstory. I logged on to my insane argonian today who just happened to be in the Outlaw Den, and as I'm running around trying to find the way out I come across this player, and I swear by all the Divines and Daedra that he actually looked like a centaur. I had to run back and look and, no, sadly, no centaur. He was just a really short dark elf with the striped black panther pet. So I immediately told everyone in my rp guild and we were all wishing we could actually play as a centaur, no matter how lore-unfriendly it was.

So this post was meant to be a joke. Still is, really. But, the more I think about it, the less far-fetched it seems.

I mean, we have a feline race, the Khajiit; we have a crocodylus species, the Saxhleel/Argonians; we have a serpentine species, the Lamia; we have a gastropoda species, the Sload, though we've not seen them in this game. We could even make the argument that we have a canine species, the werewolf, a plant-based species, the Spriggans, a water-based species, the Nerieds, and the insectoid species, the Dreugh. And those are just the ones which display various levels of sentience. There are also the bovine Minotaurs, and another insectoid species, the Nixan, and probably other hominid species I am forgetting.

I will happily admit that I'm not as up on my lore as a lot of other players are, but, to me, it seems quite possible that they would be other beast races in the ESO world, even if they are on other continents.

So, thoughts? I'm interested in hearing what others think about this.

    Moarmer plez!

Edit: On a serious note. Moarmer is one of the few non-playable races in the game that it's actually realistic to play as. They already exist in the game, they are lore friendly as in the lore they've been banished to Pyndonea and attack the Aldmeri shores for *** and giggles on a daily basis.

The possibilities of adding a Moarmer DLC is pretty broad though, it would take Zeni quite a while to make. Looking at the possible specs of a chapter like that, we'll need Pyndonea, which is a whole different island; another skill line, Serpent Magick, which the Moarmer mainly use; an immersive storyline which can include the player joining their "navy" and contributing to the attacks on the Aldmeri; possible water mounts (by water mounts I mean, can swim in shallow water so you don't dismount when stepping in a puddle) etc etc. It's a whole different culture that could contribute to the immersive game lore, but I'm guessing it will never happen.

If it ever happens, we'll probably just get the race with its skill line. Concerning which faction you should be able to play as, I think it should just be the same as the Imperial race choices, maybe exclude the AD from the choice list if you want to be *** about lore.

Won't get my hopes up soon though. I believe our next DLC will be focused on Mephala's realm, and our next chapter will focus on either the EB or DC areas & races.

I am not interested in a Centuar race as they do not find in the Elder Scrolls universe. Armor would also have to recreated to fit them. If anything, they should add Maormer and Reachmen as playable races as they are more lore friendly.

Some of the species you mentioned are actually types of Faerie. More specifically, Spriggans, Nereids, and Nixads. Some scholars even believe Elves are a type of Faerie that resides fairly low on the totem pole. Nevertheless, they simply could not be a playable race as they are less intelligent than that of Man and Mer, guardians of nature, or are hermit like.

    Lore-friendly sentient races:

    Maormer
    Sload
    Falmer
    Imga (ape people)
    Tang Mo (monkey people)
    Tsaesci (possibly related to Argonians?)
    Kamal (snow demons)
Ka Po'Tun (possibly same species as Khajiit?)
    non-Cathay Khajiit
    Lilmothiit (fox people)

The Imga could come with a Falinesti DLC.
The Akaviri races would require one or several chapters in Akavir, most likely.

Hmmm, surprised myself here, find the idea of playing as a Lamia quite interesting. I always help the Lamia''s in Coldharbour as I dislike the snotty murdering little pointy eared trouts that think they're so cool.

Actually, Centaurs were found in Daggerfall (the game not the place), so technically they are part of the lore.

I'm all for adding the Maormer as a playable race, especially since they're adding a Pyandonean motif to the game. Would be pretty cool.

There adding a Pyandonean motif??????????! O_o ... I guess thats the 2019 Chapter right there... they'll stay with their model of making large isolated state/island chapters.

I think the lilmothiit could be realistically added, as there is very little lore concerning their existence. They were last seen in southern Black Marsh, but then seemingly disappeared, cause and time of disappearance unknown. They had been very hermit like in their existence, and few outsiders had seen or had anything to do with them.

    From http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Lilmothiit;
    Biology
Like the Khajiit and Argonians, they are humanoid in form, and animalian in appearance. Said to look vulpine, meaning fox-like.

    History
The Lilmothiit used to call Black Marsh their homeland. It is not said why they left, some believe they were driven out by the Argonians or that they were wiped out by the Knahaten Flu in 2E 560 which killed everything not of reptilian stock. The Akaviri may have had interactions with the Lilmothiit, shown by the Akaviri using Lilmothiit ruins as grounds for prisons.

They are most likely related to Khajiit, as they are also a mammal-based race.

    Culture
Although little is known about Lilmothiit culture, what is known about them is that, like most beastfolk, they lived in a primitive, tribal society. It is also believed that the Lilmothiit were possibly nomadic.

This is enough to tell us that any information we have on them is at best, rumor.

I don't really mind too much. Not going to be one of those folk that have an aneurysm over lore. I think it would be a nice touch to include them on the crownstore if anyone wants to buy them. Likewise with Maormer and Falmer (before they got all *** up).

Maormer exist within the story and have a physical presence within the game. Falmer might be a bit of a stretch too much but nonetheless would be cool to play as, no one seems to use ice magic so giving them some obscene passives relating to that could make ice staves valid again.

With other races keeping them humanoid in appearance is probably important for using mounts etc.

Final thing I'd say is we are probably due a new race. Various races exist within the universe that aren't playable but there really shouldn't be any reason prohibiting some of these races use.

I think ten races is enough for how ESO is set-up. Excessive races could lead to balancing issues on the combat department. Though a non-Combat Polymorph for Lamia, Minotaurs, Spriggans and Sload would be nice. Dremora polymorphs other than the vMA one would also be nice. Also Centaurs are incredibly rare in TES lore...So rare we know little about them. :#

(Also Argonians are weird amphibian/avian/mammal/reptile alien-things. Thanks, Hist.)

The problem with centaurs isn't lore ... they are supposed to exist in Valenwood and Highrock after all. The problem is that they are not humanoid, which would require special armors and entirely new animations.

Yeah. It'd require an entirely new animation skeleton rig. Shame too, since I'd like to see them, but I can understand why on a technical level they would rather avoid setting them up.
